William has been engaged on a wide variety of urban planning, design and transportation related projects at various scales in both Ireland and the UK, for both public and private sectors. He has experience in a range of town and city centre regeneration and development programmes, comprehensive mixed use projects, local and area-based planning initiatives, movement & accessibility studies, urban development and masterplanning frameworks and has strong inter-disciplinary skills from a broad planning perspective.
His research interests relate broadly to the patterns, forms and processes of social, physical and economic regeneration in Ireland’s cities towns and villages and to the concept of regeneration as an increasingly important part of urban strategy and of local governance. William’s previous academic interests, as expressed in the research for both the MPhil and the MRUP, were heavily focused on the concept and practice of urban governance, the management of change in urban areas and evolving forms and patterns of the regeneration process.
William is also on the staff of the UCC Department of Sociology.
