Module Objective: |
To facilitate supervisors to use knowledge and theory from the various taught courses. To provide opportunities to practice the various teaching and supervision skills with social work students during a 14 week work based placement. To offer participants opportunities to apply their knowledge and experience in supervising students on placement.

Module Content: |
Orientation to knowledge, skills and practices of teaching and supervision in social work. Introductino to competencies in practice teaching and supervision.

Learning Outcome: |
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:- Develop an adequate level of competence in the different methods and competencies of practice teaching and supervision.
- Discuss time and work management skills in the administration of their own work.
- Critically appraise different work-based learning strategies and opportunities to meet identified learning needs.

Assessment: |
Placement Report and Placement Portfolio (10,000 words in total including mid-placement report and final placement report) to be submitted by end of May, which will be assessed on Pass/Fail basis.

Work which is submitted late shall be assigned a mark of zero (or a Fail Judgement in the case of Pass/Fail modules).

Pass Standard and any Special Requirements for Passing Module: |
Pass judgement. Participants must demonstrate competence in the areas of competence set out by National Social Work Qualification Board. A written supervisors report must be submitted with the portfolio demonstrating that the candidate has reached competence in all of the areas of competence outlined in the course handbook.

No Formal Written Examination.

Requirements for Supplemental Examination: |
No Supplemental Examination. Students who fail the practice placement may repeat it in the next academic year.
