Module Objective: |
To prepare participants for practice teaching and supervision. To develop skills in the preparation and management of placement opportunities. To explore learning opportunities for students on placement. To promote opportunities for the development of reflective practice skills.

Module Content: |
Introduction to conceptual frameworks of supervision and assessment of fieldwork practice. Theories and methods of reflective learning and adult/experiential learning. Constructing a reflective learning environment to encourage and promote reflective thinking and practice. Examination of current policy issues in relation to practice teaching. Introduction to different models of groupwork intervention and to their relevance for practice teaching. Examination of how the social groupwork perspectives of empowerment, participation and social inclusion are applied in work with students.

Learning Outcome: |
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:- Critically appraise student's practice teaching experience.
- Explore ongoing policy and practice influences on student's supervision and practice teaching practices.
- Identify different models of groupwork intervention and critically assess their relevance for practice teaching.
- Explore the value bases of social group work and recognise the impact of values on all aspects of intervention.
- Describe and illustrate how the social group work perspectives or empowerment, participation and social inclusion are applied in work with students.

Assessment: |
Total Marks 200: Continuous Assessment 200 marks (1 x 3,000 word essay assignment 100 marks. Journal Entry 1,500 words and presentation 100 marks).

Penalties (for late submission of course/project work etc.): |
Where work is submitted up to and including 7 days late, 5% of the total marks available shall be deducted from the mark achieved. Where work is submitted up to and including 14 days late, 10% of the total marks available shall be deducted from the mark achieved. Work submitted 15 days late or more shall be assigned a mark of zero.
