Module Objective: To integrate and apply the knowledge and understanding acquired on the course to a work-related assignment.
Module Content: Preparation of an assignment, presentation skills, accessing information. The student is required to submit a 3,500 word assignment. The topic to be covered is decided by the student in association with their employer and should include the development of a new product or the evaluation of a new process or the study of a particular problem or a literature review. The student is required to give a short presentation on their assignment to the class and lecturer.
Learning Outcome: On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
  • Access relevant information.
  • Investigate their topic.
  • Organise and write an assignment.
  • Summarise their findings.
  • Present their findings to a group.
Assessment: Total Marks 100: Continuous Assessment 100 marks (1 x 3,500 word work-related assignment, 80 marks; Presentation of assignment, 20 marks).
Compulsory Elements: Continuous Assessment. Written assignment and presentation.
Penalties (for late submission of course/project work etc.): Where work is submitted up to and including 7 days late, 5% of the total marks available shall be deducted from the mark achieved. Where work is submitted up to and including 14 days late, 10% of the total marks available shall be deducted from the mark achieved. Work submitted 15 days late or more shall be assigned a mark of zero.
Pass Standard and any Special Requirements for Passing Module: 40%.
End of Year Written Examination Profile: No Formal Written Examination.
Requirements for Supplemental Examination: Marks in passed element(s) of Continuous Assessment are carried forward, Failed element(s) of Continuous Assessment must be repeated (as prescribed by the Department.).
