Module Objective: |
Students will have knowledge of life-span developmental psychology and of the psychology of death and bereavement.

Module Content: |
Introduction to life-span developmental psychology - concerns, theories, approaches and uses; thematic approach to the life course; stage theories; developmental tasks; development in infancy and childhood, adolescence, early, middle and late adulthood; the psychology of death and bereavement.

Learning Outcome: |
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:- Identify key features of the discipline of developmental psychology.
- Examine critically state theories of development, in particular Erikson's eight-stage, age-related developmental model in the light of personal life experiences.
- Distinguish key issues which arise at particular stages of the developmental process.
- Discuss psychological understandings of the processes of death and bereavement.

Total Marks 100: Continuous Assessment 100 marks (1 x 2,000 word essay).

Penalties (for late submission of course/project work etc.): |
Where work is submitted up to and including 7 days late, 10% of the total marks available shall be deducted from the mark achieved. Where work is submitted up to and including 14 days late, 20% of the total marks available shall be deducted from the mark achieved. Work submitted 15 days late or more shall be assigned a mark of zero.
