Module Objective: Engage the students in reflective practice, enhance the students' ability to synthesise theoretical learning to practical application in the context of Community Development.
Module Content: Theoretical learning.
Reflective practice.
Learning Outcome: On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
  • Identify theoretical approaches to Community work practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles that underpin and inform community work practice.
  • Exercise effective reflective practice skills in the context of community development.
  • Develop a competence in the identification and assessment of placement practice skills.
  • Display an ethical commitment to professional practice.
  • Communicate appropriately in written format based on legal and ethical guidelines.
Assessment: Total Marks 200: Continuous Assessment 200 marks (1 x 2,000 word Agency Profile, 100 marks; 1 x 1,000 word Critical Incident Report, 70 marks; 1 x 500 word Reflection, 30 marks).
Compulsory Elements: Continuous Assessment. Attendance at lectures, placements, individual supervised sessions and tuturials. Attendance is monitored by a class register.
Penalties (for late submission of course/project work etc.): Where work is submitted up to and including 7 days late, 10% of the total marks available shall be deducted from the mark achieved. Where work is submitted up to and including 14 days late, 20% of the total marks available shall be deducted from the mark achieved. Work submitted 15 days late or more shall be assigned a mark of zero.
Pass Standard and any Special Requirements for Passing Module: 40% Pass judgement on Pratice Teacher's Report.
End of Year Written Examination Profile: No Formal Written Examination.
Requirements for Supplemental Examination: No Autumn Supplemental examination. Students who fail this module will be offered the opportunity to repeat and/or retake the placement, which may be in a subsequent academic year. Practice Placement may only be repeated once.
