Dr. Seán Óg Murphy

B.Sc., M.Sc, Ph.D. (NUI)

I am a post-doctoral researcher within the MISL and Insight groups at University College Cork.

My current work is in development of automated drone flight for search and rescue applications. In this research I investigate methods of localising isolated individuals in emergency situations using autonomous flying drones, exploiting GSM/GPRS protocols and GPS to discover the positions of lost individuals.

I am also a lecturer in Digital Multimedia as part of the Digital Humanities course in UCC.

Research Interests

My PhD thesis is titled: "Integration of Micro- and Macroscopic Models for Pedestrian Evacuation Simulation" conducted as part of the Nembes Network Embeded Systems project, and I received my doctorate in 2014.

In the past I have worked on:

-constraint-based optimisation of home appliance energy use for homes with integrated sensing

-constraint-based medicine prescription expert systems

-wireless indoor localisation using Bluetooth LE

-audience engagement analysis in commercial advertising by exploiting heterogeneous datasets.

I also have an interest in game development, my game "Boxkite" was developed in Unity and is available for free on the Google Play store for Android devices.
