Kate Twomey awarded best research poster prize at the recent Irish National Cystic Fibrosis Conference

At the 13th Irish National Cystic Fibrosis Conference held in Killarney on Jan 31st- Feb 1st 2013 the first prize of best research poster was awarded to Ms Kate Twomey. Kate is a final year PhD student in the Department of Microbiology under the supervision of Dr Robert Ryan.

Kate’s work examines the polymicrobial nature of cystic fibrosis airway infection and the role it plays in influencing bacterial virulence and response to antibiotic therapy. This project builds on strong collaborative links with Dr Barry Plant’s clinical group at the adult cystic fibrosis center based in Cork University Hospital.
