Diploma in Military Medical Care Conferring 2017
The Conferring Ceremony for the Diploma in Military Medical Care took place in UCC on Friday 6th January, 2017.
Professor Stephen Cusack, Programme Director welcomed the graduates and their families to the Aula Maxima for the Ceremony. The graduates, all serving members of Defence Forces Ireland, completed modules in Emergency Medical Technician, Medical Practices Enhancement and Military Healthcare Practice. The programme was offered in conjunction with Defence Forces Ireland and the Academy of Emergency Care, Emergency Medicine Department, CUH.
Dr. Col Adrian Ó Murchú, Commanding Officer, Central Medical Unit, Dr. Col Gerard Kerr, Director, Defence Forces Medical Corps and Mr. Victor Shine, Cork City Fire Brigade, Third Officer, participated in the academic procession into the Aula Maxima, accompanied by the Dean and School of Medicine teaching staff.
The Dean of the School of Medicine, Professor Mary Horgan congratulated the graduates on their commitment to the course and their career achievements to date. Professor Horgan mentioned how the historic venue of the Aula Maxima was such a worthy setting for this important Ceremony. Professor Horgan made particular reference to the large attendance of family and friends and she thanked them for being supportive to the graduates throughout their studies. The Outstanding Graduate of the Year award was presented to Paul Mellamphy to acknowledge his outstanding dedication to his studies. Paul conscientiously applied himself and displayed characteristics which were a credit to himself, his family and Defence Forces Ireland.
Professor Cusack thanked all those who made extraordinary efforts to support the Teaching Faculty of the Diploma MMC including Academy of Emergency Care, CUH, Defence Forces Ireland, The Health Service Executive, Cork City Fire Service and the ASSERT Centre, UCC.
Professor Cusack closed the Ceremony by wishing the graduates well in their future careers and academic endeavours.
