Graduate Entry Orientation 29/08/2008
Graduate Orientation 2008
Today, at a ceremony in the Council Room on the main campus, the President of UCC, Dr Michael Murphy officially welcomed the first class of students to the new Graduate Entry to Medicine (GEM) course at UCC.
This 4-year course, especially developed according to current best practice in medical education and designed to accommodate and optimize the learning skills of mature learners, includes 43 students in its first year.
These students come from diverse educational and professional backgrounds and the School of Medicine at UCC looks forward with much anticipation to their active participation in the School and to their contributions to its student body.
UCC believes that its inclusion of both direct and graduate entry streams to the study of medicine will expand opportunities for access to medicine, and generate a student body which can benefit from the educational and life experiences of each stream to produce doctors who are best prepared to deliver the health care needs of the nation.
