Statute XCV.
Irish Universities Act, 1908
University College, Cork
We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under
and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by
the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal
of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in
the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said
College.
Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this nineteenth day of June, 1973.

Statute XCV.
Schedule
Statutes I. to XCIV of University College, Cork shall be read and
construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.
CHAPTER I.
Bord na Gaeilge
- There shall be established in the College, Bord na Gaeilge,
hereinafter referred to as An Bord.
- The duties of An Bord shall be:
- i. to make proposals to the Governing Body in relation to
the provision of courses which include instruction
through Irish leading to university degrees or other
distinctions of the University and of the College, in
subjects or disciplines in which such instruction is already
provided through English.
- ii. To make proposals to the Governing Body in relation to
the establishment of courses of instruction through Irish
in areas or disciplines in which courses are not provided
through English.
- iii. To make proposals to the Governing Body in relation to
the provision of adequately trained staff who will be
capable of conducting and teaching such courses through
Irish.
- iv. To make proposals to the Governing Body in relation to
extending and improving the use of Irish in the College
generally.
- An Bord shall report to the Governing Body. The Governing
Body shall consider the views of the relevant Faculties and of the
Academic Council on all proposals made to it by An Bord.
- An Bord shall consist of:
- (a) the President, the Registrar and the Professor of Irish
Language and Literature who, shall be ex officio
members of An Bord.
- (b) three members elected by the Governing Body.
- (c) three members elected by the Governing Body on the
nomination of the Academic Council.
- (d) not more than two members who shall be co-opted by
the members in categories (a), (b) and (c).
- The term of office of the elected members of An Bord shall be
three years. At the end of each year one member of category (b), one
member of category (c) and all members of category (d) shall retire
but shall be eligible for re-appointment.
On the occasion of the first election of the members of An Bord, the
Governing Body shall determine which members of categories (b) and
(c) shall retire after one and two years.
- The first term of office of An Bord shall commence on the first
day of July, 1973.
- Statute XXXIV., Chapter I. as already amended, is hereby
further amended as follows:
- (a) by the deletion of sections 6 to 15 inclusive and of section
18.
- (b) in section 16 by deletion of the words "referred to in
sections 10 and 18".
- Statute LXXIV., is hereby amended as follows:
by the deletion of sub-sections ii. and iii. of Section I of
Chapter VIII.
CHAPTER II.
Professorships of Jurisprudence and Law
- (a) The names and titles of the Professorship of Jurisprudence,
Roman Law and Personal Property and of the Professorship of
Common Law, Real Property and Equity shall hereby be altered to:
Professorship of Jurisprudence and
Professorship of Law
respectively. The holders of the said Professorships having agreed in
writing to the said alteration. The holders thereof shall be subject to
the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorships had been
so named in Chapter III. of Statute XXI.
- (b) Statute XXI., Chapter III., is hereby amended.
- Statute LXXII., Chapter VI., sections 3 is hereby amended by
substitution of the words "the Faculty of Law" for the word "Law"
in the second line, the present holder of the lectureship having agreed
in writing to the said amendment.
- Statute LXXVIII., Chapter I., section 3 is hereby amended by
substitution of the words "the Faculty of Law" for the word "Law"
in the second line, the present holder of the lectureship having agreed
in writing to the said amendment.
- Statute XXVIII., Chapter II., section I as already amended is
hereby further amended by the addition of the subject Jurisprudence
to the Faculty of Commerce.
CHAPTER III.
Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme
The stipends of the President, Professors, Lecturers and Officers of
the College shall, as from 1 April, 1973, each be subject to a deduction
of the amount of the contribution required under the terms of the
Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme, as approved by the
Governing Body at its meeting on 18 January, 1973.
Provided that no such deduction shall apply to the stipend of any
present holder of one of the said posts of President, Professor,
Lecturer and Officer of the College who signifies in writing, in
accordance with the terms of the Scheme, to the Secretary of the
College that he does not intend to participate in the Scheme.
- This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I.
to XCIV. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute
XCV of University College, Cork or Stat. XCV. of Univ. Coll. Cork.
- This Statute shall come into operation on the nineteenth day
of June, 1973.
