Statute LXXXI.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this nineteenth day of June, 1969.

Statute LXXXI.

Schedule

Statutes I. to LXXX. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Professorship of Paediatrics

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a full-time Professorship of Paediatrics. Notwithstanding the provisions of previous statutes the holder of this full-time office shall not be precluded from holding and receiving a stipend wholly in respect of a full-time appointment of the kind specified in section 5 of this Chapter. He shall, however, be precluded from engaging in private practice or consultations in any form or retaining any fees which may be received by him in connection with his work.

  2. The stipend of the professorship shall be £2,340 per annum. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1, by Statute LXXIII., Chapter IV., section 1, and by Statute LXXX., Chapter III., section 1, shall also apply to the office.

  3. The said professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto shall apply.

  4. The duties of the professor shall be to lecture in Paediatrics for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Paediatrics for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.

  5. The said professorship shall be tenable only by the holder in a permanent capacity of an office of Consultant Paediatrician to the Cork Health Authority with duties in an hospital which is recognised by the College and the University as a teaching hospital, and in which he shall have as of right the control of an adequate teaching or professional unit of beds, both male and female, and where he shall be the Paediatrician in charge.

  6. The said professorship shall, subject to the foregoing, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said professorship had been included in Statutes I. to LXXX. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER II.
Professorship of Psychiatry

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a full-time Professorship of Psychiatry. Notwithstanding the provisions of previous statutes the holder of this full-time office shall not be precluded from holding and receiving a stipend wholly in respect of a full-time appointment of the kind specified in section 5 of this Chapter. He shall, however, be precluded from engaging in private practice or consultations in any form or retaining any fees which may be received by him in connection with his work.

  5. The said professorship shall be tenable only by the holder in a permanent capacity of an office as a consultant Psychiatrist under the Cork Health Authority with duties in a hospital or institution which is recognised by the College and the University as a teaching hospital or institution, and in which he shall have as of right the control of an adequate teaching or professional unit of beds, both male and female, and where he shall be the Psychiatrist in charge.

  6. The said professorship shall, subject to the foregoing, be tenable for this same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said professorship had been included in Statutes I. to LXXX. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER III.
Lectureship in Music, No. 2

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Music, No. 2.

  2. The said lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable office. The stipend of the lectureship shall be £910 per annum.

  3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Music, including Church Music, under the direction of the Professor of Music for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Music, including Church Music, for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Music.

CHAPTER IV.
Increased Stipends

  1. Statute LXXIX., Chapter I., section 4, is hereby amended by the substitution of the figure £600 for the figure £411 and £511 where they appear after the names 'Mrs. Laura Drumm' and 'Mrs. Lilian Porter' respectively, this amendment, which is made in accordance with the provisions of clause 8 of the Pension Scheme annexed to the said Statute, to be deemed to have been operative as and from 1 April, 1966.

  2. The Governing Body has, in accordance with the provisions of clause 8 of said Pension Scheme, reviewed the pensions payable to retired participants in the Scheme and to the widows of former participants or retired participants. In consequence thereof the following shall be the pensions payable to such retired participants and to such widows of former participants or retired participants (unless otherwise indicated the amounts are payable as and from 1 June, 1963):

  3. The pensions set out in the foregoing section in respect of those who retired subsequent to the enactment of Statute LXXIX. are subject to the provisions of Clause 14 of the Pension Scheme.

CHAPTER V.
Faculties

Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the subject Psychiatry to the Faculty of Medicine.

CHAPTER VI.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to LXXX. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute LXXXI. of University College, Cork or Stat. LXXXI. of Univ. Coll. Cork.

  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the nineteenth day of June, 1969.
