Statute LXXVI.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this twenty-third day of January, 1968.

Statute LXXVI.

Schedule

Statutes I. to LXXV. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Lectureship in Anatomy, No. 2

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland a Lectureship in Anatomy, No. 2.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute LXXIII., Chapter I., section 5(a)(i). The provisions of Statute LXIII.. Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1. and by Statute LXXIII., Chapter IV., section 1, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Anatomy, including Dental Anatomy, under the direction of the Professor of Anatomy for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Anatomy for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Anatomy.
  4. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER II.
Lectureship in Applied Psychology

  1. There shall he established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Applied Psychology.
  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute LXXIII., Chapter I., section 5(a)(i). The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1, and by Statute LXXIII., Chapter IV., section 1, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Applied Psychology under the direction of the Professor of Applied Psychology for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Applied Psychology for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Applied Psychology.
  4. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office end Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER III.
Lectureship in Modern English

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a lectureship in the department of English to be known as the Lectureship in Modern English.
  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute LXXIII., Chapter I., section 5(a)(i). The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section I, and by Statute LXXIII., Chapter IV., section 1, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Modern English under the direction of the Professor of Modern English for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Modern English for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Modern English.
  4. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
  5. The Lectureship in English established by Statute LV., Chapter X., is hereby abolished.

CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Industrial Engineering

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Industrial Engineering.
  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute LXXIII., Chapter I., section 5(a)(i). The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1, and by Statute LXXIII., Chapter IV., section 1. shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Industrial Engineering under the direction of the Professor of Electrical Engineering for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Industrial Engineering for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Electrical Engineering.
  4. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER V.
Lectureship in Italian

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Italian.
  2. The said lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University The stipend of the Lectureship shall be this same as that provided in Statute LXXIII.,. Chapter I., section 5(a)(i). The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1, and by Statute LXXIII., Chapter IV., section 1, shall also apply to this office.
  3. The duties of this lecturer shall be to lecture in Italian under the direction of the Professor of Romance Languages for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Italian for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Romance Languages.
  4. The said lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
  5. The provisions of Statute XXXIV., Chapter I., sections 6 to 12 (inclusive), as amended, shall not apply to this lectureship.

CHAPTER VI.
Lectureships in Mathematics, Nos. 3 and 4

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of their institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Mathematics, No. 3, and a Lectureship in Mathematics, No. 4.
  2. The said lectureships shall be full-time offices within the meaning of the statutes of this College and of the University. The stipend of each lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute LXXIII., Chapter I., station 5(a)(i). The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1., and by Statute LXXIII., Chapter IV., section 1, shall also apply to the offices.
  3. The duties of the lecturers shall be to lecture in Mathematics under the direction of the Professor of Mathematics for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates for the College. They shall also examine in Mathematics for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. They shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the offices as shall be assigned to them by the said Professor of Mathematics.
  4. The said lectureships shall be pensionable offices and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said offices thereto.

CHAPTER VII.
Faculty of Dairy Science
Professorship of Dairy and Food Engineering

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Dairy and Food Engineering.
  2. The said professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute LXXIII., Chapter I., sec. 4(a) (ii). The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV as amended by Statute LXX., Chapter III., section 1, and by Statute LXXIII., Chapter IV., section 1, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the professor shall be to lecture in Dairy and Food Engineering for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Dairy and Food Engineering for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
  4. The said professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter III., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
  5. The Professorship of Dairy Engineering established by Statute XLIII., Chapter I., section 2, is hereby abolished and in consequence thereof the reference to the Professor of Dairy Engineering in section 3 of Chapter V. of Statute LXVI. shall henceforth be deemed to he a reference to the Professor of Dairy and Food Engineering.

CHAPTER VIII.
Lectureship in Pharmacology

With the consent of the present holders of the Lectureship in Pharmacology and of the Professorship of Physiology, Statute LIX., Chapter I., is hereby amended by the substitution of the following for section 3 :

"3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Pharmacology for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the College. In the event of the establishment of a Professorship of Pharmacology in the College, the lecturer shall carry out the foregoing duties under the direction of the holder of such professorship. The lecturer shall also examine in Pharmacology for the College and if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the holder of the aforementioned professorship, if established."

CHAPTER IX.
Stipends of Professorships

  1. Statute LXXIII., Chapter VII., is hereby revoked.
  2. Statute LVIII., Chapter I., is hereby amended by the substitution of the following for section 6 :

    "6. The Governing Body on the recommendation of the President, shall have power to grant to the holder of a full-time statutory office with special professional experience increments not exceeding four in number (five in the case of the holder of a full-time professorship) on the basic scale applicable to the office."

  3. The provisions of this Chapter shall have effect as and from 1 January, 1968.

CHAPTER X.
Faculties

Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended as follows:

CHAPTER XI.

The professorship and lectureships established by this Statute shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said professorship and lectureships had been included in Statutes I. to LXXV of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER XII.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statute I. to LXXV. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute LXXVI. of University College, Cork or Stat. LXXVI. of Univ. Coll. Cork.
  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-third day of January, 1968.
