Statute LXV.
Irish Universities Act, 1908
University College, Cork
We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under
and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by
the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal
of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in
the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said
College.
Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this thirteenth day of June, 1961.

Statute LXV.
Schedule
Statutes I. to LXIV. of University College, Cork, shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.
CHAPTER I.
Professorship of Chemical Spectroscopy
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of
Chemical Spectroscopy.
- The said Professorship shall be a part-time, non-pensionable
office. The stipend of such part-time Professorship shall be £540
per annum.
- The said Professorship may, at the discretion of the Governing
Body, be held by the present holder of the Lectureship in Physical
Chemistry in conjunction with that office.
- Chemical Spectroscopy shall be deemed to be included in
the Department of Chemistry under the general direction of the
Professor of Chemistry.
CHAPTER II.
Professorship of Concrete Technology
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of
Concrete Technology.
- The said Professorship shall be a part-time, non-pensionable
office The stipend of such part-time Professorship shall be £540 per
annum.
- The said Professorship may, at the discretion of the Governing
Body, be held by the present holder of the Lectureship in Civil
Engineering in conjunction with that office.
- Concrete Technology shall be deemed to be included in the
Department of Civil Engineering under the general direction of the
Professor of Civil Engineering.
CHAPTER III.
Lectureship in Botany
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in
Botany.
- The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for
in Statute LXIII., Chapter 1., Section 3(f). The provisions of
Statute LVIII., Chapter I., Sections 5, 6 and 7. and of Chapter III.
of that Statute shall also apply to the Office.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Botany for
all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for
all Diplomas and Certificates of the College under the direction of
the Professor of Botany. He shall in addition examine in Botany
for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the
University.
- The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table
A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX.,
Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by
the addition of the said office thereto.
CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in History
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in
History.
- The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in
Statute LXIII., Chapter 1., Section 3(f). The provisions of Statute
LVIII., Chapter I., Sections 5, 6 and 7, and of Chapter III. of that
Statute shall also apply to the office.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in History for
all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for
all Diplomas and Certificates of the College under the direction of
the Professor of History. He shall in addition examine in History
for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the
University.
- The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table
A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX.,
Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the
addition of the said office thereto.
CHAPTER V.
Lectureship in Zoology
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in
Zoology.
- The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for
in Statute LXIII., Chapter I., Section 3(f). The provisions of
Statute LVIII., Chapter I., Sections 5, 6 and 7, and of Chapter III.
of that Statute shall also apply to the office.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Zoology
for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the University and for
all Diplomas and Certificates of the College under the direction of
the Professor of Zoology. He shall in addition examine in Zoology
for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the
University.
- The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office and Table
A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX.,
Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the
addition of the said office thereto.
CHAPTER VI.
Lectureship in Public Administration
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship
in Public Administration.
- The said Lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable
office. The stipend of such part-time Lectureship shall be £100
per annum.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Public
Administration for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the
University and for all Diplomas and Certificates of the College.
He shall in addition examine in Public Administration for the
College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
- Faculty: Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended,
is hereby further amended by the addition of the subject Public
Administration to the Faculty of Commerce.
CHAPTER VII.
Lectureships becoming vacant after Seven Years' Period
On the occurrence of a vacancy in a full-time or part-time
Lectureship by the expiration of the Seven Year's period referred
to in Statute XXVIII., Chapter II., Sections 1 or 3, the Governing
Body may in its absolute discretion, recommend to the Senate the
re-appointment of the person who held the Lectureship on the
occurrence of the vacancy in manner aforesaid without giving
notice of the vacancy or of the intention to appoint thereto by advertisement in accordance with Statute XXXIV., Chapter 1.,
Sections 4 or 5 if:
CHAPTER VIII.
Election of Members of the Governing Body
- The Notice required by Statute I., Chapter VI., Section 1,
as amended, and by Statute LXI., Chapter III., Section 2, to be
given to each graduate of the University whose name appears in
the College Register of Graduates shall be given by advertisement
in such manner and in such newspapers and/or periodicals as the
Governing Body may from time to time determine, and Statute I.,
Chapter VI., Section 1, as amended by Statute LXI., Chapter III.,
Section 2, is hereby amended accordingly.
- Statute I., Chapter VI., as amended, is hereby further
amended as follows, that is to say:
- (i) By the insertion in Section 53 after the words "amongst
the elected members" where they occur in that Section of
the words "other than the members elected by the graduates
of the University who are members of the College".
- (ii) By the addition of the following Section after Section 54
namely:
54A. Whenever a casual vacancy shall occur amongst
the members of the Governing Body elected by the
Graduates of the University who are members of the
College, the Secretary shall report the occurrence
of the vacancy to the Governing Body at its next
Meeting and on being so directed by the Governing
Body shall give notice of the occurrence of the vacancy
to the Graduates of the University whose names appear
on the College Register of Graduates in the manner
prescribed by Statute I., Chapter VI., Section 1, as
amended by Statute LXI., and by this Statute. The
President or his Deputy or the Acting-President, as the
case may be, shall thereupon appoint a day for the
Meeting of such Graduates for the purpose of electing
to fill the vacancy which shall be not less than two
months nor more than three months alter the date of the
advertisement referred to in Section 1 of this Chapter
or after the latest of such advertisements, if more than one
Provided, that the time so appointed shall not
be in the months of July, August or September; and if
the day which would have been appointed for such
Meeting under this Section but for this proviso, would
have fallen in any of these three months, the time to be
appointed for the Meeting shall be some day in the
month of October next ensuing.
The Professorships and Lectureships established by this Statute
shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions
and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and
obligations as if the said Professorships and Lectureships had been
included in Statutes I. to LXIV. of University College, Cork.
- This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I.
to LXIV. of University College, Cork, and may be cited as Statute
LXV. of University College, Cork, or Stat. LXV. of Univ. Coll.
Cork.
- This Statute shall come into operation on the thirteenth day
of June, 1961.
Present when the Common Seal of University College, Cork,
was affixed.
