Statute LX.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this twenty-first day of January 1958.

Statute LX.

Schedule

Statutes I. to LIX. of University College, Cork, shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments herein after set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Lectureship in Mechanical Engineering

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Mechanical Engineering.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend for the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LVIII., Chapter 1., Section 3(c). The provisions of Chapter 1., Sections 5, 6 and 7, and of Chapter III. of that Statute shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Mechanical Engineering for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the College and of the University under the direction of the Professor of Electrical Engineering, and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Electrical Engineering as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.
  5. Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition to the Faculty of Engineering of the subject Mechanical Engineering.

CHAPTER II.
Lectureship in Geology.

  1. The holder of the Lectureship in Geography and Geology established by Statute XLII., Chapter 1., having concurred, the words "and Geology " are hereby deleted from the title of that Chapter, from Sections 2 and 5 of said Chapter, and from all references to the Lectureship in subsequent Statutes.
  2. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Geology.
  3. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LVIII., Chapter I., Section 3(c). The provisions of Chapter I., Sections 5, 6 and 7, and of Chapter III. of that Statute shall also apply to the office.
  4. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Geology for all, Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the College and of the University.
  5. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER III.
Faculty of Commerce.

The Faculty of Commerce shall, as from the first day of October, 1958, consist of the Professors and/or Lecturers in the following subjects:

Accounting and Business Administration; Common Law, Real Property and Equity; Economics; French ; German; Italian; Jurisprudence, Roman Law and Personal Property; Mathematics; Romance Languages; Sociology; Spanish; Statistics;

and paragraph VII., as amended, of Section 1., Chapter II., Statute XXVII., is hereby further amended accordingly.

CHAPTER IV.

There shall be added to Statute I., Chapter XV., Section 1, the following paragraph:

Every full-time Lecturer shall so far as is compatible with the other duties of his Lectureship devote himself to research and the advancement of knowledge.

CHAPTER V.

The Lectureships established by this Statute shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Lectureships had been included in Statutes I. to LIX. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER VI.
Lectureship in Pharmacology

Statute LIX., Chapter 1., Section 5, is hereby amended by the substitution of the figure "II." for the figure "XI." where it occurs in that section, this amendment to be deemed to have had effect as from the date of the coming into operation of said Statute LIX.

CHAPTER VII.
Professorship of Electrical Engineering

Statute LV., Chapter 1., Section 3, is hereby amended by the addition thereto of the following words:
Mechanical Engineering shall also be deemed to be under the direction of the Professor.

CHAPTER VIII.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to LIX. of University College, Cork, and may be cited as Statute LX. of University College, Cork, or Stat. LX. of Univ. Coll., Cork.
  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-first day of January 1958.
