Statute LV.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this first day of April, 1954.

Statute LV.

Schedule

Statutes I. to LIV. of University College, Cork, shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Professorship of Electrical Engineering

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Electrical Engineering.
  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LI., Chapter II., Section 1, as amended, shall apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture and examine in Electrical Engineering for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the College and of the University.
  4. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, shall be hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER II.
Lectureship in Electrical Engineering

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Electrical Engineering.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 3 (c). The provisions of Statute LI., Chapter II., Section 1, as amended, shall apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Electrical Engineering under the direction of the Professor of Electrical Engineering and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Electrical Engineering as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, shall be hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER III.
Lectureship in Civil Engineering, No. 2

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Civil Engineering No. 2.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 3 (c). The provisions of Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 5, and Chapter II., Section 1, as amended, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and ex- amine in Civil Engineering under the direction of the Professor of Civil Engineering and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Civil Engineering as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended shall be hereby further amended by the addition of the said office there to.

CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Mathematics

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Mathematics.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 3 (c). The provisions of Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 5, and Chapter II., Section 1, as amended, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Mathematics under the direction of the Professor of Mathematics and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Mathematics as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, shall be hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER V.
Lectureship in Mathematical Physics, No. 1

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Mathematical Physics No. 1.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 3 (c). The provisions of Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 5, and Chapter II., Section 1, as amended, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Mathematical Physics under the direction of the Professor of Mathematical Physics and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Mathematical Physics as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, shall be hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER VI.
Lectureship in Mathematical Physics, No. 2

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Mathematical Physics No. 2.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 3 (c). The provisions of Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 5, and Chapter II., Section 1, as amended, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Mathematical Physics under the direction of the Professor of Mathematical Physics and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Mathematical Physics as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, shall be hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER VII.
Lectureship in Anatomy

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Anatomy.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 3 (c). The provisions of Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 5, and Chapter II., Section 1, as amended, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Anatomy under the direction of the Professor of Anatomy and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Anatomy as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, shall be hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER VIII.
Lectureship in Pathology

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Pathology.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 3 (c). The provisions of Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 5, and Chapter II., Section 1, as amended, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Pathology under the direction of the Professor of Pathology and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Pathology as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, shall be hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER IX.
Lectureship in Physiology

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Physiology.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 3 (c). The provisions of Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 5, and Chapter II., Section 1, as amended, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Physiology under the direction of the Professor of Physiology and to discharge such other duties in the Department of Physiology as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, shall be hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER X.
Lectureship in English

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in English.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as those provided for in Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 3 (c) The provisions of Statute LI., Chapter I., Section 5, and Chapter II., Section 1, as amended, shall also apply to the office.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in English under the direction of the Professor of English and to discharge such other duties in the Department of English as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office, and Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., as already amended, shall be hereby further amended by the addition of the said office thereto.

CHAPTER XI.
Lectureship in Palaeography and Ecclesiastical History

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Palaeography and Ecclesiastical History.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable office. The stipend shall be £450 per annum.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in Palaeography and Ecclesiastical History under the direction of the Professor of History for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates of the College, as well as of the National University of Ireland, and to discharge such other duties in the Department of History as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor.
  4. Faculty: Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, shall be hereby further amended by the addition of the subjects Palaeography and Ecclesiastical History to the Faculty of Arts.

CHAPTER XII.

The Professorship and Lectureships instituted by this Statute shall be tenable for the same term and on the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said offices had been included in Statutes I. to LIV. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER XIII.
Professorship of German

Notwithstanding the provisions of previous Statutes, the stipend of the part-time Professorship of German shall be £960 per annum as from the 1st October, 1953.

CHAPTER XIV.
Professorship of Dairy Technology

  1. Notwithstanding the provisions of previous Statutes, the duties of the holder of the Professorship of Dairy Technology shall include that of Director of all College Creameries and Cream Separating Stations, and he shall be Manager thereof for the purposes of all Acts of the Oireachtas governing the operation of Creameries.
  2. Notwithstanding the provisions of Statute XX., the President is empowered to and shall regulate at the College Creameries and Cream Separating Stations such teaching and research facilities as may be required by the Heads of the Departments of the Dairy Science Faculty other than the Department of Dairy Technology.

CHAPTER XV.
Abolition of Lectureship in Mathematics and Mathematical Physics

The Lectureship in Mathematics and Mathematical Physics established by Statute LII., Chapter I., is hereby abolished.

CHAPTER XVI.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to LIV. of University College, Cork, and may be cited as Statute LV. of University College, Cork, or Stat. LV. of Univ. Coll., Cork.
  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the first day of April, 1954.
