Statute L.
Irish Universities Act, 1908
University College, Cork
We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under
and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by
the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal
of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in
the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said
College.
Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this twenty-fifth day of April, 1951.

Statute L.
Schedule
Statutes I. to XLIX. of University College, Cork, shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.
CHAPTER I.
Professorship of Statistics
- There shall be established in the College in the event of its
institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland a
Professorship of Statistics.
- The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend for the Professorship shall be at the rate of £1,200 per annum
increasing by annual increments of £30 per annum to a maximum
stipend of £1,500 per annum. For increment purposes the present
holder of a full-time Lectureship in this College shall be allowed
two-thirds of his service in such office in determining the point on
the scale at which he shall enter, and any previous provisions to the
contrary are hereby amended accordingly. The holder if a married
man, a widower or a widow shall be allowed a non-pensionable
allowance of £30 per annum in respect of each child up to the age
he /she ceases continuous attendance at a secondary school.
The stipend shall be payable in accordance with the Statutes of the
College.
- The duties of the Professor shall be : (a) to lecture and examine in Statistics and take charge of a Statistics Laboratory
whenever such Laboratory shall be available and (b) to lecture and
examine in Mathematics of which Department the existing Professor
of Mathematics is the Head.
CHAPTER II.
Lectureship in Mathematical Physics and Soil Mechanics.
The Lectureship in Mathematical Physics and Soil Mechanics
established by Statute XLVIII. shall be abolished on the occurrence of a vacancy caused by the resignation, retirement or otherwise of the present holder of the office.
CHAPTER III.
Lectureship in Physical Chemistry.
- There shall be established in the College in the event of its
institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland a
Lectureship in Physical Chemistry.
- The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend for the Lectureship shall be at the rate of £800 per annum
rising by annual increments of £30 per annum to a maximum of
£1,100 per annum. For increment purposes the present holder of a
full-time Assistantship in this College shall be allowed one-half of
his service in such office in determining the point on the scale at
which he shall enter, and any previous provisions to the contrary
are hereby amended accordingly. The holder if a married man, a
widower or widow shall be allowed a non-pensionable allowance of
£30 per annum in respect of each child up to the age he /she ceases
continuous attendance at a secondary school. The stipend shall be
payable in accordance with the Statutes of the College.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in
Chemistry including Physical Chemistry under the direction of the
Professor of Chemistry.
CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Paediatrics.
- There shall be established in the College in the event of its
institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland a
Lectureship in Paediatrics.
- The said Lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable
office. The stipend for such Lectureship shall be £120 per annum.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in
Paediatrics for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the College
as well as in the National University of Ireland and to give the
necessary clinical demonstrations in the subject.
CHAPTER V.
Lectureship in Orthodontics.
- There shall be established in the College in the event of its
institution by the Senate of the National University of Ireland a
Lectureship in Orthodontics.
- The said Lectureship shall be a part-time non-pensionable
office. The stipend for such Lectureship shall be £60 per annum.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture and examine in
Orthodontics for all Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the
College as well as in the National University of Ireland and to give
the necessary clinical demonstrations in the subject.
The Professorship and Lectureships instituted by this Statute
shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions
and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and
obligations as if the said Professorship and Lectureships had been
included in Statutes I. to XLIX. of University College, Cork.
Statute XXVII., Chapter II., as amended by Statute XXXVII.
Chapter II I., and Statute XLII I., Chapter VII., and Statute
XLVIII., Chapter VI., is hereby further amended as follows :
- (a) By the addition of the subject Statistics to the Faculties of Arts and Science.
- (b) By the addition of the subject Physical Chemistry to the Faculty of Science.
- (c) By the addition of the subjects Paediatrics and Orthodontics to the Faculty of Medicine.
Table A of the Additional Pension Scheme annexed to Statute
XXXIX, Chapter II., shall be amended by the addition thereto
of the following offices :
- Professorship of Statistics.
- Lectureship in Physical Chemistry.
- This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I.
to XLIX. of University College, Cork, and may be cited as Statute
L. of University College, Cork, or Stat. L. of Univ. Coll., Cork.
- This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-fifth
day of April, 1951.
Present when the Common Seal of University College, Cork,
was affixed.
