Statute XLVI.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this eighteenth day of June, 1947.

Statute XLVI

Schedule

CHAPTER I.
Lectureship in Chemistry.

  1. Statute XXIV., Chapter VI., Section 4, of University College, Cork, is hereby revoked in so far as it applies to the Lectureship in Chemistry.

  2. The duties of the Lecturer in Chemistry shall be to lecture and examine in Chemistry under the direction of the Professor of Chemistry, and, so far as may be required by the Academic Council, to do so through Irish.

CHAPTER II.
Lectureship in History.

  1. Statute XXXIII., Chapter 1. of University College, Cork, is hereby amended by the deletion of Section 5 therefrom.

  2. The duties of the Lecturer in History shall be to lecture and examine in History under the direction of the Professor of History, and, so far as may be required by the Academic Council, to do so through Irish.

CHAPTER III.

  1. Professorship of Music

    The Professorship of Music in the College established by Statute II., Chapter 1., Section 3, of University College, Cork, shall, as from the 1st day of November, 1946, cease to be a part-time Professorship and as from said date, the said Professorship shall be a full-time Professorship and the present holder of said Professorship shall be deemed to be a full-time Professor within the meaning of the Statutes of University College, Cork. The maximum stipend of the said Professorship shall be the sum of £850 per year subject to the provisions of Statute XXXVI., Chapter II., of University College, Cork.

  2. Lectureship in Spanish

    The Lectureship in Spanish, established in the College by Statute VI., Chapter I., Section 1, of University College, Cork, shall as from 1st day of November, 1946, cease to be a part-time Lectureship and as from said date, the said Lectureship shall be a full-time Lectureship and the present holder of the said Lectureship shall be deemed to be a full-time Lecturer within the meaning of the Statutes of University College, Cork. The maximum stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the sum of £850 per year subject to the provisions of Statute XXXVI., Chapter II., of University College, Cork.

  3. The full-time offices instituted by Sections 1 and 2 of this Chapter shall be pensionable offices, and Table A of the Additional Pension Fund Scheme annexed to Statute XXXIX., Chapter II., is hereby amended by the addition of the said offices thereto.

  4. The full-time offices instituted by Sections 1 and 2 of this Chapter shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and Obligations as if the said offices had been included in Statutes I. to XLV. of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER IV.

Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary in Statutes I. to XLV. of University College, Cork, the following shall, as from the 1st of November, 1946, be the maximum yearly stipends of the President, of the Professorships and Lectureships established in the College and of the Officers of the College:

  1. The stipend of the President shall be £1,750 and he shall, in addition, be entitled to an allowance of £250 per year in respect of the expenses of his office and to residence, fuel and light.
    Provided always that if any Professorship or Lectureship shall be held by the President no remuneration shall attach to such Professorship or Lectureship while so held.

  2. The maximum stipends of the said Professorships and Lectureships shall be the amounts set out in the following list:

  3. The stipend of the Registrar shall be £220 per year and he shall in addition be entitled to residence, fuel and light.

  4. The stipend of the Secretary and Bursar shall be £1,100 per year.

  5. The stipend of the Librarian shall be £850 per year.

  6. The stipends attached to the Offices of the President and of the Professors and Lecturers and salaries of the. Officers shall be paid out of the income of the College granted by the Oireachtas.

CHAPTER V.
Professorships in the Dairy Science Faculty.

  1. Notwithstanding anything contained in Statutes I. to XLV. of University College, Cork, the following shall be the maximum stipends per year of the Professorships in the Dairy Science Faculty as from the 1st day of November, 1946:

    The Full-time Professorship of:

    Agriculture £1,200
    Dairy Bacteriology£1,100

    Dairy Accounting and Dairy Economics£1,100
    Dairy Engineering£1,100
  2. In addition to the stipend of the Professorship, of Agriculture a sum of £120 per year shall be paid to the Professor of Agriculture in respect of his services as Director of the College Farms.

CHAPTER VI.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to XLV. of University College, Cork, and may be cited as Statute XLVI. of University College, Cork, or Stat. XLVI. of Univ. Coll., Cork.

  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the eighteenth day of June, 1947.
