Statute XXXVI.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this thirtieth day of March, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirty-eight.

Statute XXXVI.

Schedule

Statutes I. to XXXV. of University College, Cork; shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Appointment of Professors, Lecturers and other Teachers of the College.

The Provisions of Chapter 1., Statute XXXIV., shall not apply in any case in which a teaching office has been founded by private benefaction, and accepted by the College in pursuance of the Charter, and any provisions inconsistent with the provisions of the said Chapter I. of Statute XXXIV., or with any of them, have been specified by the Founder of the endowment.

CHAPTER II.

Chapter III. of Statute XXIV. and Chapter I. (2) of Statute XXVIII. are hereby revoked, and the following substituted in lieu thereof:

On the occurrence of a vacancy in any of the full-time Professorships or full-time Lectureships of the College at present existing or hereafter created the stipend of the vacant full-time Office on the filling of the vacancy shall be in the first year of the new appointment to the Office a sum of the amount of 75 per cent. of the maximum stipend of such office, and shall increase in each subsequent year by a sum of the amount of 5 per cent. of such maximum stipend, until the amount of the maximum stipend of the Office shall have been reached;

Provided that such initial reduction shall not apply in the case, of any appointment where the person so appointed shall have previously held in the College either a full-time Professor. ship or a full-time Lectureship ;

Provided also that if the candidate selected to fill a vacancy as full-time Professor or full-time Lecturer shall at the time of appointment be
(a) a married man with a family, and
(b) engaged as a full-time member of the teaching staff of a University or institution of University rank,
his commencing salary shall be augmented at the rate of one increment for every five years of service completed as a member of the teaching staff of such an institution;

Provided also that nothing in the terms of this Chapter shall abridge or imply a limitation on the Statutory power of the Governing Body of the College on the occurrence of a vacancy in any Statutory Office to abolish such Office or to alter the terms upon which such Office is held.

CHAPTER III.

This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to XXXV. of University College, Cork, and may be cited as Statute XXXVI. of University College, Cork, or Stat. XXXVI. of Univ. Coll., Cork.

This Statute shall come into operation on the thirty- first day of March, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirty-Eight
