Statute XXXI.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this Ninth day of May, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirty-six.

Statute XXXI.

Schedule

  1. Statutes I. to XXX. of University College, Cork, shall be read and construed with the additions and modifications as hereunder set forth.

CHAPTER I.

The Salaries of the Professorship of Mathematics, the Professorship of Archaeology, and the Lectureship in Spanish shall be as follows :-

FROM THE 1ST OCTOBER, 1936:
Professorship of Mathematics­£600 per annum rising by annual increments of £40 per annum to £800 per annum, subject to and with the benefits conferred by Statute XXVIII., Chapter I. (2), if same be applicable to the person appointed.
Professorship of Archaeology­£550 per annum.
Lectureship in Spanish­£400 per annum.
The said Professorship of Mathematics shall be deemed to be a full-time Professorship within the meaning of the Statutes of the College:
The said Professorship of Archaeology and the said Lectureship in Spanish shall not be deemed to be a Full-time Professorship or a Full-time Lectureship within the meaning of the Statutes of the College.

CHAPTER II.

The Professorship of Accountancy and Business Organisation,
The Professorship of Methods of Education, and
The Lectureship in Hygiene and Public Health are hereby extinguished.
The Lectureship in History of Education shall be extinguished as from the 1st October, 1939.

CHAPTER III.

There shall be in the College (in the event of such Professorship being instituted within the College by the Senate of the National University of Ireland) in addition to the Professorships mentioned in Statutes I. to XXX. of University College, Cork.

A Professorship in Education.

The said Professorship shall be a Full-time Professorship within the meaning of the Statutes of the College. The Salary of the Professorship of Education shall be £600 per annum, increasing by annual increments of £40 per annum to £800 per annum subject to and with the benefits conferred by Statute XXVIII., Chapter I. (2), if same be applicable to the person appointed. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable Office in accordance with the Statutes of the College, and shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions, and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations, as if the said Professorship had been included in Statutes I. to XXX. of the College. The duties of the Professor of Education shall include the delivery of the necessary Lectures on the History of Education, as from 1st October, 1939 or such earlier date as the Lecturer in the History of Education may cease to hold office.

CHAPTER IV.

There shall be in the College (in the event of such a Lectureship being instituted within the College by the Senate of the National University of Ireland) in addition to the Lectureships mentioned in Statutes I. to XXX. of University College, Cork:

A Lectureship in Economics.

The Salary of the said Lectureship shall be £150 per annum. The said Lectureship shall not be deemed to be a Full-time Lectureship within the meaning of the Statutes of the College. The said Lectureship shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions, and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations, as if the said Lectureship had been included in Statutes I. to XXX. of the College. The holder of the said Lectureship shall carry out his duties as directed by the Professor of Economics and Commerce.

CHAPTER V.

Notwithstanding anything contained in the previous Statutes of the College, the Governing Body is hereby empowered to grant to Professors or Lecturers who deliver Lectures or conduct Practical Work in connection with the Course for the Diploma in Public Health, such extra remuneration over and above their annual salaries as the Governing Body shall, after receiving a report thereon from the Finance Committee of the College, think fit.

The Governing Body is hereby also empowered to grant remuneration on the same conditions to Professors and Lecturers who have to duplicate their Lectures for Students who attend Evening Lectures leading to a Degree or Diploma.

CHAPTER VI.

This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to XXX. of University College, Cork, and may he cited as Statute XXXI. of University College, Cork, or Stat. XXX I. of Univ. Coll., Cork.

This Statute shall come into operation on the Eleventh day of May, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirty-Six.
