Statute 169.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this nineteenth day of April, 1994.

Statute 169.

Schedule

Statutes 1 to I 68 of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Professorship of General Practice

  1. The Professorship of General Practice, established by Statute 141, Chapter IV., shall be deemed to be in the Department of General Practice.
  2. The provisions of Statute 156, Chapter II., are hereby deleted.

CHAPTER II.
Professorship of Public Health

  1. The Professorship of Social Medicine, established by Statute 87, Chapter II., shall henceforth be known as the "Professorship of Public Health".

CHAPTER III.
Professorship of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.
  2. The said Professorship shall be in the Department of Surgery and shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Professorship shall be such amount, as determined by the Governing Body, not exceeding 25% of the maximum stipend attaching to a non-clinical professorship as provided in Statute 132, Chap. I., section 4(a), as amended, together with such other sum as shall be agreed between the Governing Body and the hospital authority for which the duties of the office of Consultant, referred to in section 4, are carried out; the total stipend attaching to the Professorship shall be computed to reflect the workload referred to in section 3.
  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Surgery, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Professor shall also examine in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Head of the Department of Surgery. The duties attaching to the Professorship shall be deemed to reflect a commitment of time equivalent to three sessions per week, with the balance of eight sessions being devoted to the duties of the office of Consultant referred to in section 4.
  4. The said Professorship shall be tenable only by the holder in a permanent capacity of an office of Consultant Anaesthetist, with duties in a hospital which is recognized by the College and the University as a teaching hospital.
  5. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Applied Social Studies

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Applied Social Studies.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be in the Department of Applied Social Studies and shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 7(a), as amended.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Applied Social Studies, under the direction of the Head of the Department of Applied Social Studies, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Applied Social Studies for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Head of the Department of Applied Social Studies.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

CHAPTER V.
Lectureship in Food Engineering No. 2

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Food Engineering No. 2.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be in the Department of Food Engineering and shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 7(a) as amended.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Food Engineering, under the direction of the Head of the Department of Food Engineering, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Food Engineering for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Head of the Department of Food Engineering.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

CHAPTER VI.
Lectureship in Sociology No. 3

  1. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Sociology No. 3.
  2. The said Lectureship shall be in the Department of Sociology and shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 7 (a) as amended.
  3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Sociology, under the direction of the Head of the Department of Sociology, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Sociology for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Head of the Department of Sociology.
  4. The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

CHAPTER VII.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes 1 to 168 of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute 169 of University College, Cork or Stat. 169 of Univ. Coll. Cork.
  2. This Statute will come into operation on the nineteenth day of April, 1994.
