We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Statutes I to 162 of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.
(a) The provisions of this Chapter apply to the following:

(b) The provisions of this Chapter shall also apply to any full- time Associate Professorship in a clinical dental subject as determined by the Governing Body and to any future full-time Professorship or Lectureship established in a dental clinic subject in so far and in such names as shall be determined by the Governing Body. The provisions shall also apply to such full- time Assistantships in clinical dental subjects as at present exist and as may be established in the future.
(c) Notwithstanding the foregoing, the provisions of this Chapter shall apply only in cases where the holder of any Professorship, Associate Professorship or Lectureship or Assistantship referred to has been appointed or recognised by the Governing Body as a hospital consultant.
The provisions set out in previous statutes whereby the duties attaching to the holders of the offices referred to in section 1 include the obligation to discharge such professional duties appropriate to the office shall be deemed to be subject to the provisions of a contract, the terms of which are determined by the Governing Body and signed by the holders of each of the said offices.
(a) Subject to the provisions of sub-section (b) of the section, the holders of the offices referred to in section 1 above shall be precluded from engaging in private practice or consultations in any form and from retaining any fees which may be received by them in connection with their work.
(b) Under the terms of the contract referred to in section 2 above, the holders of any of the offices referred to in section 1 above may opt to devote not more than the equivalent of one session of three hours duration per week to private practice or consultation work, subject to such conditions as may be determined by the Governing Body. This option, once taken up shall apply for the remainder of the term of office and a lower stipend shall be paid, as provided for in section 4(b).
(c) The provisions of Statute 116, Chapter I., shall continue to apply to those who do not opt for the provision referred to in sub- section (b) of this section.
(a) The stipend of the Professor/Consultants, Associate Professor/Consultant and Lecturer/Consultants referred to in section 1 above shall, as from 1 June, 1991, be as follows:

(b) In the case of the Professors/Consultants, Associate Professor/Consultants and Lecturer/Consultants who opt for the provisions referred to in section 3(b) above, the stipend shall, as from 1 January, 1991 be as follows:

(c) In addition to the foregoing increased stipends the holder of any of the offices referred to in section 1 shall, in respect of the period 1 July, 1989 to 31 May, 1991, receive a payment of IR£l5,500: said payment shall be subject to a pension contribution of 3½%.
(a) The stipends referred to in Chapter 1. of this Statute shall be subject to a pension contribution of three and one half per cent.
(b) The provisions of Statute CXX., Chapter II., are hereby deleted.
The foregoing provision shall be deemed to be effective as from 1 June, 1991.
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institutions by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Sociology No. 2.
The said Lectureship shall be in the Department of Social Theory and Institutions and shall be a full-time office within the meanings of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 7(a), as amended.
The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Sociology, under the direction of the Head of the Department of Social Theory and Institutions, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Sociology for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Professor of Social Theory and Institution.
The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institutions by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in Applied Psychology No. 2.
The said Lectureship shall be in the Department of Applied Psychology and shall be a full-time office within the meanings of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in Statute 132, Chapter I., section 7(a), as amended.
The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Applied Psychology, under the direction of the Head of the Department of Applied Psychology, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. The Lecturer shall also examine in Applied Psychology for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He/she shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him/her by the Professor of Applied Psychology.
The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statue 79, as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
The Lectureships hereby established shall, subject to the provisions contained in this Statute, be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Lectureships had been included in Statute I to 162 of University College, Cork.
This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes 1 - 162 of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute 163 of University College, Cork or Stat. 163 of Univ. Coll. Cork.
This Statute will come into operation on the ninth day of March, 1993.
