Statute CXXXIV.
Irish Universities Act, 1908
University College, Cork
We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under
and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by
the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal
of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in
the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said
College.
Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this twenty-sixth day of April, 1983.

Statute CXXXIV.
Schedule
Statutes I. to CXXXIII. of University College, Cork shall be read
and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments
hereinafter set forth.
CHAPTER I.
Lectureship in Education, No. 2
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in
Education No. 2.
- The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in
Statute CXXXII., Chapter I., section 7(a), as amended.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Education
under the direction of the Professor of Education for all degrees,
diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and
certificates of the College. He shall, in addition, examine in Education
for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The Lecturer shall also supervise courses of practical training
(including the giving of demonstration lessons) when required to do
so by the said Professor. He shall, in addition, discharge such other
duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the
said Professor of Education.
- The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which the
provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme
annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
CHAPTER II.
Lectureship in Clinical Pharmacology
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Lectureship in
Clinical Pharmacology.
- The said Lectureship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the said Lectureship shall be the same as that provided in
Statute CXXXII., Chapter I., section 7(a), as amended.
- The holder of the said Lectureship shall, if so appointed by
the Governing Body, act as Head of the Department of Pharmacology for such period or periods as the Governing Body may decide
or until the appointment shall have been terminated by the Governing Body.
- The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Clinical
Pharmacology, under the general direction of the Head of the
Department of Pharmacology, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the
College. In the event of the establishment of a Professorship of
Pharmacology or of a Professorship of Clinical Pharmacology in the
College, the Lecturer shall carry out the foregoing duties under the
direction of the holder of one of these Professorships, as determined
by the Governing Body. The Lecturer shall also examine in Clinical
Pharmacology for the College and, if required by the Senate to do
so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other
duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the
Head of Department.
- The said Lectureship shall be a pensionable office to which
the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension
Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
CHAPTER III.
Lectureship in Pharmacology
With the consent of the present holder of the Lectureship in
Pharmacology, the provisions of Statute LIX., Chapter I., section
3, as amended by Statute LXXVI., Chapter VIII., shall be
amended as follows:
- (i) by the addition of a new section 3 as follows:
"3. The holder of the said Lectureship shall, if so appointed
by the Governing Body, act as Head of the Department of
Pharmacology for such period or periods as the Governing
Body may decide or until the appointment shall have been
terminated by the Governing Body"
and
- (ii) by renumbering section 3 as section 4 and by the addition
thereto of the following proviso:
"Provided that, until, or in the absence of the establishment of
a Professorship of Pharmacology, the duties of the Lecturer
shall be carried out under the general direction of the Head of
the Department of Pharmacology".
and
- (iii) by renumbering section 4 as section 5.
CHAPTER IV.
Abolition of Certain Part-time Statutory Lectureships
The following part-time Statutory Lectureships, established by
the statutes in parenthesis, are hereby abolished:
Part-time Lectureship in Therapeutics (Statute XXI.,
Chapter IV.)
Three Part-time Lectureships in Medicine (Statute LIX.,
Chapter III.)
Part-time Lectureship in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
(Statute LIX., Chapter III as amended by Statute CXII.,
Chapter III., section 8)
Three Part-time Lectureships in Surgery (Statute LIX.,
Chapter III.)
Part-time Lectureship in Surgery - Orthopaedic (Statute LIX.,
Chapter III.)
Part-time Lectureship in Surgery - Thoracic (Statute LXXI.,
Chapter V.)
The Lectureships hereby established shall be tenable for the same
term and upon the same conditions and the holders thereof shall be
subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Lectureships
had been included in Statutes I. to CXXXIII., of University College
Cork.
- This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I.
to CXXXIII. of University College, Cork and may be cited as
Statute CXXXIV. of University College, Cork or Stat. CXXXIV. of
Univ. Coll. Cork.
- This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-sixth day
of April, 1983.
Present when the Common Seal of University College, Cork,
was affixed.
