Statute CXXXIII.
Irish Universities Act, 1908
University College, Cork
We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under
and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by
the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal
of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in
the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said
College.
Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this eighteenth day of January, 1983.

Statute CXXXIII.
Schedule
Statutes I. to CXXXII. of University College, Cork shall be read
and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments
hereinafter set forth.
CHAPTER I.
Increased Stipends
- Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary contained in
Statues I. to CXXXII. of University College, Cork, the annual
stipends of the President, of the Professorships and Lectureships
referred to in this Chapter and of the Officers of the College shall, as
from the dates specified, be increased as hereinafter set forth.
- (a) The stipends referred to in Statute CXXXII.. Chapter I.,
sections 2, 3, 4(a), (b) and (c), 6, 7(a) and (b), 10 and 11, as
increased by the provisions of sections 8 and 9 of said Chapter, shall
be further increased as from 1 December, 1981, by 2%, as from
1 March, 1982, by 6% and, as from 1 January, 1983, by 5%.
- (b) The persons entitled to the stipends referred to in sub-section
(a) of this section shall in addition be paid on or about 1 February,
1983, a sum equivalent to 50% of the additional sum that would have
been paid had the 5% increase as from 1 January, 1983, applied as
from 1 October, 1982; the remaining 50% of this additional sum
shall be payable on or about 1 June, 1983.
- (c) The foregoing increases shall be subject to and calculated in
accordance with the provisions of the Agreement on Public Service
Pay between the Public Services Committee of the Irish Congress of
Trade Unions and the Minister for the Public Service, as amended.
- The deductions referred to in Statute CXXXII., Chapter I.,
section 2(b) shall, as from 1 December, 1981, be IR£2,227, as from
1 March, 1982, be IR£2,360 and, as from 1 October, 1982, be lR£2,478.
CHAPTER II.
Children's Allowances
Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., section 2, as already amended, is
hereby further amended to the extent that the amount of the children's
allowances, as from 1 June, 1981, be IR£106 per annum, as from
1 March, 1982, be IR£107 per annum and, as from 1 October, 1982,
be IR£109 per annum.
CHAPTER III.
Income Continuance Plan
The stipends of a President and of Professors, Lecturers and
Officers appointed after the date hereof shall be subject to a deduction in respect of the premium payable under the Income Continuance
Plan as determined by the Governing Body.
CHAPTER IV.
Professorship of Modern Irish Language
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of
Modern Irish Language.
- The said Professorship shall be in the Department of Modern
Irish and shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the
Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said
Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CXXXII.,
Chapter I., section 4(a), as amended.
- The holder of the said Professorship shall, if so appointed by
the Governing Body, act as Head of the Department of Modern Irish
for such period or periods as the Governing Body may decide or until
the appointment shall have been terminated by the Governing Body.
- The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Modern Irish,
and particularly in Modern (including Early Modern) Irish Language
and Learning, under the general direction of the Head of the
Department of Modern Irish, for all degrees, diplomas and
certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of
the College. He shall also examine in Modern Irish for the College
and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
- The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which
the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension
Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
CHAPTER V.
Associate Professorship of Irish Language and Literature
(Modern Irish Literature)
On the establishment of the Professorship of Modern Irish
Language referred to in Chapter IV,, the Associate Professorship of
Irish Language and Literature (Modern Irish Literature) established
by Statute LXXIV., Chapter III., shall be abolished.
CHAPTER VI.
Professorship of Modern Irish Literature
With the consent of the present holder of the Professorship of
Modern Irish, established by Statute CXXX., Chapter I.,
- (a) the said Professorship shall henceforth be known as the
Professorship of Modern Irish Literature and
- (b) the provisions of Statute CXXX., Chapter I., shall be replaced
by the following:
"5. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Modern
Irish, particularly in Modern (including Early Modern) Irish
Literature under the general direction of the Head of the
Department of Modern Irish. for all degrees, diplomas and
certificates of the University and for all diplomas and
certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Modern
Irish for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for
the University".
CHAPTER VII.
Lectureship in Accounting No. 2
Lectureship in Accounting No. 3
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of their
institution by the National University of Ireland, two lectureships
entitled:
- Lectureship in Accounting No. 2
- Lectureship in Accounting No. 3
- The said lectureships shall be full-time offices within the
meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of each of the lectureships shall be the same as that provided
in Statute CXXXII., Chapter I., section 7(a).
- The duties of each of the lecturers shall be to lecture in
Accounting, under the direction of the Professor of Accounting, for
all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all
diplomas and certificates of the College. Each lecturer shall also
examine in Accounting for the College and, if required by the
Senate to do so, for the University. Each lecturer shall, in addition,
discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be
assigned to him/her by the said Professor of Accounting.
- The said lectureships shall be pensionable offices to which
the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension
Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
CHAPTER VIII.
Department of Electrical Engineering and Microelectronics
The Department of Electrical Engineering shall henceforth be
known as the Department of Electrical Engineering and Microelectronics.
The Professorship and Lectureships hereby established shall be
tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the
holders thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as
if the said Professorship and Lectureships had been included in
Statutes I. to CXXXII., of University College, Cork.
- This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I.
to CXXXII. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute
CXXXIII. of University College, Cork or Stat. CXXXIII. of Univ.
Coll. Cork.
- This Statute shall come into operation on the eighteenth day
of January, 1983.
Present when the Common Seal of University College, Cork,
was affixed.
