Statute CXXX.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this third day of July, 1981.

Statute CXXX.

Schedule

Statutes I. to CXXIX. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Professorship of Modern Irish

  1. The Professorship of Irish Language and Literature, established by Statute I., Chapter XIII., is hereby abolished.
  2. There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Modern Irish. The Department of Irish Language and Literature shall henceforth be known as the Department of Modern Irish.
  3. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the Statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the said Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CIX., Chapter I., Section 4(a), as amended.
  4. The holder of the said Professorship shall, if so appointed by the Governing Body, act as head of the Department of Modern Irish for such period or periods as the Governing Body may decide or until the appointment shall have been terminated by the Governing Body.
  5. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Modern Irish, under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Modern Irish, for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Modern Irish for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. Modern Irish shall be deemed to include Early Modern Irish.
  6. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
  7. The said Professorship shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorship had been included in Statutes I., to CXXIX., of University College, Cork.

CHAPTER II.
Associate Professorship of Irish Language and Literature
(Modern Irish Literature)

With the consent of the present holder of the Associate Professorship of Irish Language and Literature (Modern Irish Literature), the references to the "Professorship of Irish Language and Literature" in Statute LXXIV., Chapter III., section 3, shall be deemed to be references to the "Head of the Department of Modern Irish".

CHAPTER III.
Lectureship in Irish Language and Literature

With the consent of the present holder of the Lectureship in Irish Language and Literature, the provisions of Statute LXIII., Chapter VII., section 3, shall be replaced by the following:

"3. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Irish Language and Literature under the direction of the Head of the Department of Modern Irish for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Irish Language and Literature for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Head of the Department of Modern Irish".

CHAPTER IV.
Lectureship in Irish Language and Literature No. 2

The references in Statute LXXIV., Chapter VI., section 3, as amended by Statute CXXIII., Chapter V., section 2, to the "Professorship of Irish Language and Literature" shall be deemed to be references to the "Head of the Department of Modern Irish".

CHAPTER V.
Associate Professorships

The provisions of Statute CXXII., Chapter I., section 1, shall be amended by the substitution of the word "eighteen" for the word "nine" and by the addition to the table referred to therein as follows:

CHAPTER VI.
Lectureships

Statute CXXV., Chapter II., section 1, shall hereby be amended by the substitution of the word "sixteen" for the word "six" and by the addition to the table referred to in said section as follows:

CHAPTER VII.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I., to CXXIX., of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute CXXX. of University College, Cork or Stat. CXXX. of Univ. Coll. Cork.
  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the third day of July, 1981.
