Statute CXXIV.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this fifteenth day of January, 1980.

Statute CXXIV.

Schedule

Statutes I. to CXXIII. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments herein- after set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Increased Stipends

  1. Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to CXXIII. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the President, of the professorships and lectureships referred to in this Chapter and of the Officers of the College shall, as from the dates specified, be increased as hereinafter set forth, the increased stipends to each be rounded to the nearest pound.
  2. The annual stipends of the professorships and lectureships referred to in Statute CXXI., Chapter I., shall, as from 1 June, 1979, be increased by 9%.
  3. The annual stipends of the part-time lectureships set forth in Stature CXV., Chapter I., as already amended, shall, as from 1 June, 1979, be increased by 9%.

CHAPTER II.
Professorship of Music

  1. The provisions of this Chapter shall henceforth apply to the Professorship of Music established by Statute II., Chapter I., section 3, as amended.
  2. The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 2(a) of this Statute.
  3. The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Music for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Music for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended and the Pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.

CHAPTER III.
Associate Professorships

  1. Statute CXXII., Chapter I., section 3, is hereby replaced by the following:

    "3. The duties of each of the Associate Professors shall be to lecture in the subject assigned by the Governing Body under the direction of the Professor or the Head of the Department designated by the Governing Body for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. Each of the said Associate Professors shall also examine in the subject so assigned for the College and if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. Each of the said Associate professors shall, in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned by the designated Professor or Head of Department".

  2. The foregoing amendment shall be deemed to be operative as from 22 May, 1979.

CHAPTER IV.
The Faculties

Statute I., Chapter XI., section 8, shall be hereby amended by the insertion of the words "who are Professors or Lecturers" after the word "members".

CHAPTER V.

  1. A president, officer, full-time professor, full-time lecturer and full-time assistant, appointed after the date hereof, shall reside within reasonable and convenient distance of the principal location of his duties, unless the Governing Body otherwise permits.
  2. The Governing Body may from time to time, after considering recommendations of the Academic Council in that behalf determine what is a "reasonable and convenient distance" within the meaning of the foregoing section.

CHAPTER VI.

  1. This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to CXXIII. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute CXXIV. of University College, Cork or Stat. CXXIV. of Univ. Coll. Cork.
  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the fifteenth day of January, 1980.
