We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Statutes I. to CXVIII. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.
Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to CXVIII. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the President, of the professorships and lectureships set forth in this Chapter and of the Officers of the College shall, as from 1 March, 1978, from 1 April, 1978, and from 1 March, 1979, be increased as hereinafter set forth.
(a) The annual stipends as set forth in Statute CIX., Chapter I. sections 2, 3, 4(a), 4(b), 4(c), 6(a), 6(b) and 7, as amended, shall, as from 1 March, 1978, be increased by 8% subject to a minimum increase of £183 per annum, the increased stipends to be each rounded to the nearest pound; said stipends shall, as from I April, 1978, be increased by £173 per annum. The increased stipends shall, as from 1 March, 1979, be further increased by 2%, the further increased stipends to be each rounded to the nearest pound.
(b) The annual pensionable value referred to in Statute CIX., Chapter I., sections 2 and 3, shall, as from 1 March, 1978, be increased to £1,163 and, as from 1 March, 1979, be increased to £1,186.
(c) The annual stipend of the Vice-President shall, as from the dates indicated, be as set out:

(a) The annual stipend of each of the full-time professorships set out in this sub-section shall, as from 1 March, 1978, be £7,950, as from 1 April, 1978, he £8,036.50 and, as from 1 March, 1979, be £8,197.
Provided that the total of the annual stipend herein provided and the annual salary payable to the holder as Consultant by the Southern Health Board shall not as from 1 March, 1978, exceed £15,900, shall not, as from 1 April, 1978, exceed £16,073, and shall not as from 1 March, 1979, exceed, £16,394.
(b) The annual stipend of each of the part-time professorships set out in this sub-section shall, as from 1 March, 1978, be £3,273, as from 1 April, 1978, be £3,325, and as from 1 March, 1979, be £3,392.
(c) The annual stipend of the part-time Professorship of Chemical Spectroscopy shall, as from 1 March, 1978, be £410, and, as from 1 March, 1979, be £418.
(d) The annual stipend of the part-time Professorship of Mathematical Statistics shall, as from 1 March, 1978, be £2,182, as from 1 April, 1978, be £2,217, and, as from 1 March, 1979, be £2,261.
(a) The annual stipend of each of the full-time lectureships set out in this sub-section shall, as from 1 March, 1978, be £6,777.50, as from 1 April, 1978, be £6,864, and, as from 1 March, 1979, be £7,001.50.
Provided that the total of the annual stipend herein provided and the annual salary payable to the holder as Consultant by the Southern Health Board shall not, as from 1 March, 1978, exceed £13,555, shall not, as from 1 April, 1978, exceed, £13,728, and shall not as from 1 March, 1979, exceed £14,003.
(b) The annual stipend of the Lectureship in Preventive Dentistry shall, as from the dates indicated, be as set out:

The annual stipend of the part-time lectureships set out in Statute CXV., Chapter I., shall, as from 1 March, 1978, be increased by 8%, the increased stipends to be each rounded to the nearest pound; such increased stipends shall, as from 1 March, 1979, be further increased by 2%, the further increased stipends to be each rounded to the nearest pound.
(a) Statute LXXII., Chapter X., is hereby revoked as from 31 December, 1975.
(b) There shall be payable as from 31 December, 1975, or from the date of appointment if later, the annual non-pensionable allowance in respect of each child, as specified in Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., section 2, as amended, to each holder of a full-time statutory office, who is a married woman.
Provided that her husband is not eligible for an allowance for the same child arising from his employment in the College or in the public sector.
Where a husband and a wife are eligible for an allowance arising from their employment in the College or in the public sector in respect of the same child, either no allowance will be payable to the husband or the wife, or the amount of the allowance payable by the College to one of the spouses will be abated by the amount of the allowance which is paid to the other spouse.
Children's Allowances shall not be payable in the case of an appointment made on or after 2 October, 1978, unless the person appointed held, immediately prior to the new appointment, an office in the College which had an entitlement to such allowances.
Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., section 2, as already amended, is hereby further amended to the extent that the amount of the children's allowances shall, as from 1 April, 1978, be £99 per annum in respect of each qualified child.
Clause 31 of the Pension Scheme annexed to Statute LXXIX., is hereby amended as from 1 April, 1978, by the substitution of the words "multiplied by two and a half" for the word "doubled", and by the substitution of the words "two and a half times" for the word "double".
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Italian.
The said Professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the Professorship shall be the same as that provided in Chapter I., section 2(a) of this Statute.
The duties of the Professor shall be to lecture in Italian for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Italian for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University
The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
The said Professorship shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said Professorship had been included in Statutes I. to CXVIII. of University College, Cork.
This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to CXVIII. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute CXIX. of University College, Cork or Stat. CXIX. of Univ. Coll. Cork.
This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-second day of June, 1978.
