Statute CXVIII.
Irish Universities Act, 1908
University College, Cork
We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under
and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by
the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal
of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in
the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said
College.
Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this eighteenth day
of May, 1978.

Statute CXVIII.
Schedule
Statutes I. to CXVII. of University College, Cork shall be read and
construed with the additions, modifications and amendments herein-
after set forth.
CHAPTER I.
Increased Stipends
- Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary contained in
Statutes I. to CXVII. of University College, Cork, the annual
stipends of the President, of the professorships and lectureships set
forth in this Chapter and of the Officers of the College shall be
amended as hereinafter set forth.
- The stipends as set forth its Statute C., Chapter I., sections 2,
3, 4(a), 4(b), 4(d), 4(e), 4(g), 5, 6(a), 6(b), 6(c) and 7 shall, in respect
of the months April and May, 1974, be increased by an amount which
is the lower of:
- (i) five per cent of said stipends, or
- (ii) the additional amount which would have been paid if the
increased stipends set forth in Statute CII., Chapter I.,
reduced by the amounts provided therein under the terms of
the Employer - Trade Union National Agreement. 1974, had
been effective from 1 April, 1974.
CHAPTER II.
Professorship of Geology
- There shall be established in the College, in the event of its
institution by the National University of Ireland. a Professorship of
Geology.
- The said professorship shall be a full-time office within the
meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The
stipend of the professorship shall be the same as that provided in
Statute CIX., Chapter I., section 4(a), as amended. The provisions
of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended, shall also apply to the
office.
- The duties of the professor shall be to lecture in Geology for all
degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all
diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in
Geology for the College, and if required by the Senate to do so, for the
University.
- The said professorship shall be a pensionable office to which
the provisions of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the Pension
Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
- The said professorship shall be tenable for the same term and
upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to
the same duties and obligations as if the said professorship had been
included in Statutes I. to CXVII. of University College, Cork.
CHAPTER III.
Lectureship in Geology
With the consent of the present holder of the Lectureship of
Geology, the provisions of Statute LX., Chapter II., section 4, shall
be replaced by the following:
"4. The duties of the Lecturer shall be to lecture in Geology under
the direction of the Professor of Geology for all degrees, diplomas
and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and
certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Geology for
the College and if required by the Senate to do so, for the
University. He shall, in addition, discharge such other duties
appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said
Professor of Geology".
- This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I.
to CXVII. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute
CXVI II. of University College, Cork or Stat. CXVIII. of Univ. Coll.
Cork.
- This Statute shall come into operation on the eighteenth day
of May, 1978.
