We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Statutes I. to CX. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.
Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to CX. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the President, of the professorships, readerships and lectureships and of the Officers of the College shall be increased as set forth in this Chapter, from I August, 1976.
The annual stipends as set forth in Statute CIX., Chapter I., sections 2, 3, 4(a), 4(b), 4(c), 5, 6(a), 6(b) and 7 shall be increased by three per cent and by £104.40 per annum subject to a minimum increase of £157 per annum and a maximum increase of £26l per annum, the increased stipend to be rounded to the nearest £1.
The non-pensionable expense allowance set forth in Statute CIX., Chapter I., section 2 and in previous statutes shall cease with effect from 1 October, 1976.
(a) The annual stipend of each of the full-time professorships set out in this sub-section shall be £7,l42½.
Provided that the total of the annual stipend herein provided and the annual payable salary to the holder as consultant by the Southern Health Board shall not exceed £14,285.
(b) The annual stipend of each of the part-time professorships set out in this sub-section shall be £2,900.
(c) The annual stipend of the part-time Professorship of Chemical Spectroscopy shall be £364.
(d) The annual stipend of the part-time Professorship of Mathematical Statistics shall be £1,933.
(a) The annual stipend of the Lectureship in Preventive Dentistry shall be as set out:

(b) The annual stipend of each of the full-time lectureships set out in this sub-section shall be £6,057.

The annual stipend of each of the part-time lectureships set out in this section shall, as from 1 August, 1976, be as follows:

The name and title of the Professorship of Law shall hereby be altered to Professorship of Common Law, the holder of the said Professorship having agreed in writing to the said alteration. The holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said professorship had been so named in Chapter III., of Statute XXI. as hereby amended.
There shall be established in the College, in the event of its institution by the National University of Ireland, a Professorship of Law.
The said professorship shall be a full-time office within the meaning of the statutes of the College and of the University. The stipend of the professorship shall be the same as that provided in Statute CIX., Chapter I., section 4(a) as increased its accordance with the provisions of Chapter I., section 2, of this Statute. The provisions of Statute LXVII., Chapter IV., as amended shall also apply to the office.
The duties of the Professor of Law shall be to teach in legal subjects in conformity with the provisions of this Statute for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in such legal subjects for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University.
The said professorship shall be a pensionable office to which the provision of Statute LXXIX., as amended, and the pension Scheme annexed thereto, as amended, shall apply.
The said professorship shall be tenable for the same term and upon the same conditions and the holder thereof shall be subject to the same duties and obligations as if the said professorship had been included in Statutes I. to CX. of University College, Cork.
With the consent in writing of the present holders of the Professorship of Common Law and of the Professorship of Jurisprudence and of the present holders of the Lectureship in Law and of the Lectureship in Law, No. 2 there shall be established in place of the existing Departments of Law and of Jurisprudence a department entitled the Department of Law, which shall comprise the whole of the membership of the existing Departments of Law and Jurisprudence. The professorship in the Department of Law shall be the Professorship of Common Law, the Professorship of Jurisprudence and the Professorship of Law to be established pursuant to the provisions of this Statute and any other professorships in the Department of Law which may be hereafter established.
(a) The Professor of Common Law shall teach and examine in the subjects, Law of Property, Land Law and Equity.
(b) The Professor of Jurisprudence shall teach and examine in the subjects, Jurisprudence, Legal History and Constitutional Law.
(c) The Professor of Law shall teach and examine in the subjects, Law of Contract, Law of Torts, Commercial Law, Industrial Law and Law of the European Economic Community. He shall, if a head of the Department of Law is at any time appointed, carry out his teaching duties under the general direction of such head.
(d) Subject to the foregoing provisions of this Statute, the Governing Body shall have power, on the recommendation of the Academic council, from time to time to allocate and re-allocate among the professorships in the Department of Law the duties of teaching and examining in any other legal subjects, and, should a vacancy occur in the Professorship of Common Law or the Professorship of Jurisprudence in the subjects referred to in section 8(a) and 8(b) of this Statute, respectively.
(e) Insofar as it is inconsistent with the provisions of this Statute, Chapter III., of Statute XXI. is hereby amended.
(f) Subject to the foregoing provisions of this Statute, the Governing Body shall have power from time to time, after recommendation by the Academic Council, to make provision for the appointment of a professor in the Department of Law to be head of such department.
Statute LXXII., Chapter VI., section 3, and Statute LXXVIII., Chapter I., sections 3, as already amended, are hereby further amended by the substitution of the words "to lecture in legal subjects" for the words "to lecture in law", and "Head of the Department of Law" for the words "Senior Professor of the Faculty of Law" where the latter words first appear in the relevant statute, the present holders of the Lectureship in Law and Lectureship in Law, No. 2, having respectively agreed in writing to the said amendments and all further references in the said sections as hereby amended to the senior professor in the Faculty of Law are hereby revoked.
The Lectureship in Nutrition established by Statute CIII., Chapter II., is hereby abolished.
Statute XXXVII., Chapter II., as already amended, is hereby further amended by:
(a) the addition to the Faculty of Law of the subject Law and the deletion of the subjects, Roman Law, Personal Property, Real Property and Equity.
(b) by the addition to the Faculty of Science of the subject Chemical Spectroscopy.
This Statute shall be construed with and as part of Statutes I. to CX of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statute CXI. of University College, Cork or Stat. CXI. of Univ. Coll. Cork.
This Statute shall come into operation on the eighteenth day of January, 1977.
