Statute CVII.

Irish Universities Act, 1908

University College, Cork

We, the Governing Body of University College, Cork, under and by virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the said Act, Do by this present instrument under the Seal of University College, Cork, make the Statute contained in the Schedule hereof for the general government of the said College.

Given under the Common Seal of University College, Cork, this twenty-fourth day of February, 1976.

Statute CVII

Schedule

Statutes I. to CVI. of University College, Cork shall be read and construed with the additions, modifications and amendments hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I.
Increased Stipends

  1. Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary contained in Statutes I. to CVI. of University College, Cork, the annual stipends of the President, of the professorships, readerships and lectureships set forth in this chapter and of the Officers of the College shall, as from 1 December, 1975, be those hereinafter set forth.

  2. The annual stipend of the President shall be £13,735. He shall also be entitled to residence, fuel and light valued for pension purposes at £1,040 per annum. In addition, he shall receive a non-pensionable allowance in respect of the expenses of his office, the annual amount of such allowance to be £1,632.

  3. The annual stipend of the Registrar shall be the same as that provided in section 4. (a) of this Chapter. The present holder of this office shall also be entitled to residence fuel and light, valued for pension purposes at £1,040. The Governing Body may at its discretion pay a cash allowance equivalent to the pensionable value of residence, fuel and light.

  4. Subject to section 8 of this Chapter, the annual stipend of readerships shall be as set out in Column A of the Second Appendix annexed hereto.

  5. The annual stipend of each of the offices of Finance Officer and Secretary, of College Engineer and Planning Officer, of Dean of Student Affairs and of Librarian shall be the same as that provided in section 4. (a) hereof .

  6. The minimum stipend specified in each column in the First and Second Appendices annexed hereto shall be paid in respect of the first year of appointment and each of the subsequent stipends points shall respectively be payable as from each of the annual anniversaries of the date of appointment until the maximum stipend is payable and said maximum stipend shall thenceforth be payable.

    Provided that the Governing Body, on the recommendation of the President, shall have power to determine that any stipend point may be paid in respect of the first year of appointment to a holder of a full-time statutory office with special professional experience; on the occurrence of such an event, the subsequent stipend points shall respectively be payable as from each of the annual anniversaries of the date of appointment until the maximum stipend is payable and said maximum stipend shall thenceforth be payable.

  7. The annual stipend of each of the part-rime lectureships set out in this section shall, as from 1 December, 1975, be as follows:

CHAPTER II.
Directorship of the Computer Bureau and
Lectureship in Computer Science

  1. The post of Director of the Computer Bureau, established by Statute LXXXVII., Chapter IV., is hereby abolished and the entire provisions of said Statute LXXXVII., Chapter IV., are hereby deleted.

  2. Statute LXXII., Chapter V., section 3, is hereby deleted and replaced by the following:

    " 3. The duties of the lecturer shall be to lecture in Computer Science under the direction of the Professor of Computer Science for all degrees, diplomas and certificates of the University and for all diplomas and certificates of the College. He shall also examine in Computer Science for the College and, if required by the Senate to do so, for the University. He shall in addition, discharge such other duties appropriate to the office as shall be assigned to him by the said Professor of Computer Science".

CHAPTER III.
Lectureship in Dairy Chemistry

The Lectureship in Dairy Chemistry, established by Statute LVI., Chapter II., shall henceforth be known as the Lectureship in Dairy and Food Chemistry, No. 2, and the duties of the Lecturer in relation to Dairy Chemistry as set out in said Statute LVI., shall henceforth be deemed to be duties in relation to Dairy and Food Chemistry, and the said Statute LVI. and all subsequent statutes shall be read and construed accordingly.

CHAPTER IV.

  1. This statute shall be construed with and as part of Statues I. to CVI. of University College, Cork and may be cited as Statutes CVI. of University College, Cork or Stat. CVI., of Univ. Coll., Cork.

  2. This Statute shall come into operation on the twenty-fourth day of February, 1976.
