Jim Clarken, CEO, Oxfam Ireland, and UCC Executive MBA Class of 2001/02, was recently awarded an UCC Alumnus Achievement Award for his work in the third world charity and development sector.
On the evening of his award presentation, Jim took a few minutes to reflect on the value of his UCC Executive MBA, the managerial skills it gave him and how it has helped him in developing his career path, as well as his work with Oxfam Ireland.
Here he is in conversation with Dr. Joan Buckley, Senior Lecturer, School of Management & Marketing, and UCC Executive MBA programme.
On Friday 20th September the MBA class of 1991 - 1993 held a 20 Year Re-union in the Staff Common Room in UCC.
Of the original twenty-one class members, fifteen were able to attend on the night.
They were joined by a number of the teaching team from 1993 - Dr. Joan Buckley, MBA Academic Director and Head, Department of Management & Marketing, and Derry Cotter, Department of Accounting, Finance & Information Systems.
The MBA Charitable Trust
The brainchild of the UCC Executive MBA Class of 2012, the idea came about when the class worked with a number of Cork-based charitable organisations. They realised that, using their professional and business acumen, and the learning derived from the UCC Executive MBA, they could offer innovative and strategic insights and advice to these organisations.
Building on this idea they have moved to the establishment of a Charitable Trust, as the vehicle through which MBA graduates can engage with the organisations.
The MBA Charitable Trust is a wonderful opportunity to network with fellow MBAs, make new contacts and to support charitable communities in the Cork region.
