The 2018 CRITICS Summer Workshop takes place at University College Cork during 27-31 August 2018.
Mr. Chun Xie and Prof. Sebastian Wieczorek (UCC Department of Applied Mathematics, School of Mathematical Sciences) together with Prof. Peter Ashwin (University of Exeter, UK) organised an International Workshop from Monday 27th August to Friday 31st August 2018 on Critical Transitions and Tipping Points.
The main focus of the Workshop is on characterizing and predicting the occurrence of sudden and unexpected changes in the state of complex systems that are triggered by small and slow changes in external trends such as environmental conditions. The goal of the Workshop is to bring together members of the European Maria-Sklodowska Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN) CRITICS, as well as invited speakers from outside the network, to create a unique and multidisciplinary collaborative research environment. The topics cover mathematical theory of critical transitions to application examples from the natural world (e.g. climate, biology, ecology), technology and society.
