SCOR Actuarial Award Winner 2020
UCC MSc student wins Prestigious SCOR Actuarial Award
Maximilian Moriarty was awarded the 2020 SCOR Actuarial Award for his thesis ‘A Mortality Experience Study for Evaluating the Longevity Risk of an Annuity Product”, which examined various mortality models to evaluate the longevity risk for Life Assurance products. The dissertation evaluated mortality models that can help insurers identify the longevity risk they are exposed to for various annuity products.
Maximillian wrote the dissertation while studying for his MSc in Actuarial Science under the supervision of Ms Linda Daly (an actuary in the School of Mathematical Sciences at UCC).
SCOR is a global reinsurance company and the SCOR Actuarial Awards aim to encourage innovation by supporting the teaching of actuarial science, and reward students who demonstrate innovative ideas and projects in the risk management field. This competition was open to all MSc students from Irish and British Universities who have written a thesis in Actuarial Science (or a closely related discipline). Due to Covid19 restrictions, the annual award ceremony was unable take place this year but Maximillian and his supervisor were nevertheless delighted to win this award.
