Title:  On reducibility of the Moreau model of elastoplasticity


Abstract: The sweeping process was introduced by J.-J. Moreau as a mathematical formalism for spatially discretized models of quasistaic elastoplasticity. We will discuss geometric conditions under which the sweeping process is reducible to a much simpler explicit model of Prandtl-Ishlinskii, which is used by engineers for modeling one-dimensional elastoplasticity, dry friction, fatigue accumulation, and constitutive laws of smart materials.
