Remembering the Stonewall Riots - 50 years on
28 June 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York, USA. Stonewall was a pivotal moment in the LGBT+ liberation movement. For the first time, they engaged in forceful, organised and visible public resistance against their oppression.
The UCC LGBT+ Staff Network will be celebrating and commemorating this important anniversary on Friday 28 June 2019. Join us for a coffee morning in the River Room, Glucksman Café between 10.30 and 11.30 am on that day.
Enter our Book Competition
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, we are organising a book competition. We have three copies of Marc Stein’s The Stonewall Riots: a Documentary History (NYU Press, 2019) and three copies of Orla Egan’s Queer Republic of Cork (Onstream, Cork, 2016).
The first six people who reply to firstname.lastname@example.org with the correct answers to the following three questions will receive a copy of one of the books.
- True or false - the Stonewall Riots began in response to a police raid on the Stonewall Inn?
- When was homosexuality decriminalised in Ireland?
- When was UCC Staff LGBT+ Network founded?
When replying, please include your name and the postal address details to which you wish the book to be delivered.
