PhD Law Students' Awards

Three PhD Law students have secured prestigious study abroad fellowships to support their doctoral research. Fiona O’Regan and Alan Desmond, (both IRCHSS Government of Ireland scholars), will spend the Spring semester as visiting research fellows at Harvard Law School.
Fiona and Alan are one of an elite group of 20 doctoral researchers who were selected to participate in the fellowship programme. While at Harvard, they will work closely with Law School professors and have access to libraries, seminar facilities and research support. Fiona O’Regan’s doctoral thesis examines victim participation and gender based violence in the work of the International Criminal Court. Alan Desmond is working on a comparative study of regularisation of undocumented migrants and international and European human rights law. Anne Neylon, who is the recipient of a Law Faculty scholarship, was awarded a visiting study fellowship to the COMPASS programme at Oxford University, and will be one of a highly specialised group of researchers and senior scholars working on current issues of integration, refugee law and policy. The students’ success reflects the increasing internationalisation of the Law Faculty’s PhD programme and the innovative nature of the research being undertaken by PhD students at UCC.
