The Faculty of Law is delighted and proud to note that our graduate the Hon. Mr Justice William McKechnie is being nominated to the Supreme Court bench.
Born in 1951 he was educated in the Presentation Brothers Cork and UCC Law Faculty. He was called to the Bar in 1972 and became senior counsel in 1987. In 2000 he was appointed as a judge of the High Court. During his time as a High Court Judge Mr Justice McKechnie has been recognised for his skilled, well reasoned and articulate judgments. As a distinguished member of the High Court for many years, Mr Justice McKechnie has remained a friend of the Faculty throughout this time. This year alone he judged students in the Annual Law Department Moot Court and delivered the annual lecture of the Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights on the subject of white collar crime.
