Máiréad Enright, UCC Ph.D. Candidate selected to speak on the ‘New Voices Panel’ at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of International Law

Máiréad Enright, Ph.D. Candidate in Law and the EJ Phelan Fellow in International Law, 2008-2010, was recently selected to speak on the ‘New Voices Panel’ at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of International Law, to be held in Washington D.C. March 24-27 2010.

The 6th eLaw Summer Institute (eLSI) is open now for applications.  eLSI, with its focus on the emerging policy and law of the information age, is designed to be a critical learning experience for the lawyer of the 21st century, who must have a greater understanding and appreciation of the domestic and international aspects of this growing and evolving body of law.


PhD Student Study Abroad Success

Current PhD Law students have been the recipients of prestigious Study Abroad / Research Fellowships, reflecting the increasing internationalisation of UCC Law’s PhD programme.

Launch of LLM (Practitioner)

The closing date for receipt of LLM (Practitioner) applications has been extended to 1 July 2010.  Application should be made online at www.pac.ie 

The LLM (Practitioner) is an innovative masters programme developed collaboratively between the Faculty of Law, University College Cork and the Law Society of Ireland. 


Conferring of Four PhD Degrees in Law

The success of the PhD Programme in Law was evident at the conferring ceremony on 17th of June when four students received the PhD in Law.    The Faculty of Law has been actively engaged in developing its PhD programme and now has the largest and most established PhD Programme of any Irish Law School.  Graduation ceremonies in 2009 and 2010 have seen the first wave of graduates coming through with 10 PhDs in Law being awarded in 2009 and 5 this year to date.

Mr Justice McKechnie nominated for appointment to Supreme Court.

The Faculty of Law is delighted and proud to note that our graduate the Hon. Mr Justice William McKechnie is being nominated to the Supreme Court bench. 

Construction work in Aras na Laoi

Aras na Laoi is currently undergoing some significant construction work in preparation for the new academic year. This work is not preventing access to, and use of facilities in the Law Department on the first and second floor of the  building.

Faculty of Law Orientation Programme

The Faculty of Law Orientation Programme will take place on Tuesday 7th September 2010 at 3 pm in Boole 1, for the following Programmes Law (CK301); BCL Clinical (CK305); BCL International (CK306); Law and French (CK302); Law and German (CK303); Law and Irish (CK304).

PhD Law Students' Awards

Three PhD Law students have secured prestigious study abroad fellowships to support their doctoral research. Fiona O’Regan and Alan Desmond, (both IRCHSS Government of Ireland scholars), will spend the Spring semester as visiting research fellows at Harvard Law School.
