Enforcing European Union Environmental Law

A conference on the theme Enforcing European Union Environmental Law, organised by the Faculty of Law, UCC took place on Friday 25 November.  The event is supported by funding from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Communicating Europe Initiative www.eumatters.ie

Following on from last year’s successful conference in UCC, this year’s event examined topical issues in the enforcement of EU environmental law including:

Key developments in domestic and EU environmental law;

Recent developments in environmental enforcement before the Court of Justice; and

Trends and developments at EU level on access to justice.

The conference Chairs were the Hon Mr Justice Frank Clarke and David Holland SC.

The speakers were:  Dr Áine Ryall, Faculty of Law, UCC; Tom Flynn BL‎; Adam-Daniel Nagy, Environment Directorate-General, European Commission; Gerard O’Leary, Office of Environmental Enforcement/Environmental Protection Agency; and Joe Noonan, Solicitor, Noonan Linehan Carroll Coffey.

Over 200 people attended the conference including lawyers, members of the judiciary, regulators, academics and environmental NGOs.
