OneDrive For Business Service

OneDrive for Business provides cloud based storage where you can store and share your work files.  This service also allows you to share your files directly with UCC staff and students.  All UCC email users have a OneDrive for Business folder and can access it using their UCC email address and password. With OneDrive for Business, your files are stored in the cloud and not on your computer hard drive which allows you to access your documents from anywhere, anytime, and from any device once you have an internet connection.  

What benefits does this service provide?

Anywhere, Anytime, Any device Access

Access your files from any device as long as you have an internet connection. Access your files anytime. You no longer need to store files on your computer hard drive or a USB pen drive or key. You can conveniently access your files on OneDrive for Business at any time, just logon with your UCC email address and password

Share Your Documents Easily

You can share any file you have on your OneDrive for Business with UCC staff and students.  By selecting the document and clicking on the share button, you can choose what users to share the file with.  You no longer need to use email attachments to share files as you can send a link directly to the shared document.  All files are private until you chose to share them and you can stop sharing them at any time.

Real-time Collaboration

You can edit documents in real-time, multiple users can edit a shared document at the same time.  You can edit the document as you normally would and if others are concurrently editing the document, you will be alerted and shown what section they are working on.  This allows you to see immediate updates to the shared document.

Restore Previous Version

You can view or restore previous versions of documents in OneDrive for Business as long as you have not turned off document versioning.

Access to MS Office Online

Free access to Office online, so it does not matter if the device you are using has MS Office installed or not, you will be able to use Office online through your OneDrive for Business account.

Who can I share my OneDrive for Business documents with?

You can share your OneDrive for Business files and folders with UCC staff and students. For external sharing, please use Microsoft Teams or SharePoint.

Additional Information on OneDrive for Business

• For best user experience we recommend that Windows 10 and Office 2016 are installed on your PC
• You should set your Regional Setting to “(UTC) Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London” so that all files reflect the local time for file created/modified parameters and Set Language to “English(Ireland)”
• Use good naming conventions for files and avoid the use of sub-folders in OneDrive Files View
