ISS21 visit to Sheffield Centre for Study of Childhood and Youth
Deirdre Horgan (School of Applied Social Studies) and Helen Lynch (Department of Occupational Therapy) recently visited the Centre for Study of Childhood and Youth (Sheffield University) on behalf of the ISS21 Children and Young People Research Cluster.
A group of ISS21 Children and Young People cluster members, led by Elizabeth Kiely, were successful in an application earlier in the year to the UCC Strategic Research Fund for funding for the cluster to support a strategic networking initiative with other children’s research centres/institutes. An exchange scheme was developed with two research centres and Deirdre Horgan (School of Applied Social Studies) and Helen Lynch (Department of Occupational Therapy) visited the Centre for Study of Childhood and Youth (Sheffield University) from 14th to 16th May 2013. They attended a workshop Scaling Borders, Walls and Keys: Children's Spatialities, a Health and The Body Group meeting and a Global Childhood Group meeting where they met a number of the centre's researchers. While there, they briefed the co-Directors of the Centre, Allison James and Penny Curtis, on the work of the UCC cluster and explored the possibilities for strategic networking between cluster members and researchers in Sheffield and Cork. Academics/researchers from the Sheffield centre willalso be visiting Cork later in the year (Autumn 2013) and this will offer opportunities for other cluster members to gain insight into how other institutes/centres work, to find out more about their research activities and to progress some worthwhile synergies.
