UCC shortlisted in two categories in Annual Knowledge Transfer Ireland awards
This year UCC teams has been shortlisted in two Knowledge Transfer Ireland (KTI) Impact Award catagories. The awards which will be presented on March 25th in Dublin by Damien English TD, Minister of State for Skills, Research and Innovation.
The Knowledge Transfer Ireland (KTI) Impact Awards recognise and showcase the success of collaborative working and the commercialisation of research resulting in the translation of knowledge and expertise beyond its creation in Irish publicly-funded research performing organisations for the wider benefit of the economy and society.
The award categories for 2015 are as follows:
1. Research2Business Collaborative Impact
2. Spin-out Company Impact
3. Consultancy Impact
4. Licence2Market Impact
This year UCC has been shortlisted in two catagories
Dr. Peter O’Brien has been shortlisted for the KTI Impact Awards 2015 in the category: Research2Business Collaborative Impact.
In 2014 Dr O’Brien conducted large research projects with a range of Irish-based Multinationals and SMEs as well as supporting smaller projects with other Irish-based and International companies. The group has successfully completed projects which delivered prototypes in each case, and 4 Inventions, three technology transfer agreements with another in development and a patent also being proposed.

Brendan Finucane and Dr. David Sammon have been shortlisted for the KTI Impact Awards 2015 in the category: Licence2Market Impact.
The Ecanvasser product is an app and cloud service that helps political campaign teams to better plan canvasses, record and respond to voter queries. It replaces existing paper systems for key campaign data such as the voter register, constituent surveys, contact directories, candidate policy positions and canvass query forms.
Ecanvasser has had a crucial role in the development of Vconnecta. Ecanvasser has been the flagship product of Vconnecta since its launch.
Ecanvasser has seen extensive uptake and by now it is heavily embedded in the political campaign sphere in Ireland. In the run up to the Irish Local Elections 2014, it was used to survey in excess of 10,000 households in Ireland each week. It is also used in the United States, with campaigners in Nevada using the tool in congressional elections. Over 200 political campaigns have been managed with the system, including campaigns for Members of Parliament in the United Kingdom. 72% of Ecanvasser clients were elected.
The awards will be presented by Damien English TD, Minister of State for Skills, Research and Innovation at a ceremony on Wednesday, 25th March in the Hilton Hotel, Kilmainham, Dublin 8 at 3.00pm.
