Vconnecta Wins 2016 Smart Technology Innovation Award
Vconnecta Ltd was awarded the 2016 Smart Technology Innovation Award at IT@Cork European Tech Cluster Leaders Awards.
The Leaders Awards is an annual event recognising the leading companies in Cork’s IT community. From global multinationals to schools and start-ups, the awards recognise those who have gone further than most in the use of technology in their respective organisations and businesses.
The Smart Technology Innovation Award, presented at a Gala Dinner at Fota Island Resort on 20th October 2016, is designed to recognize companies that are contributing to the community and the economy with innovative solutions to existing problems. Vconnecta Ltd was chosen from a very strong field of finalists on the basis that it ‘showed leadership in the area of technology innovation and, particularly, as it helps other organizations to innovate in their community engagement work.’
Vconnecta CEO Brendan Finucane received the award from Cork Smart Gateway’s Claire Davis and Cork County Council’s John Forde.
Vconnecta products include Ecanvasser, a mobile app and campaign dashboard for campaigning and constituency management and Civis Connect, a consultation and engagement tool for projects and citizen engagement. Both products are designed to streamline the processes around engaging with people and building relationships.
Brendan Finucane identified the opportunity when canvassing for the 2011 General Election in Ireland. He developed a prototype smart phone application for his BSc (Business Information Systems) final year project in 2012 and went on to win a UCC Students’ Union award for his idea. He was encouraged to develop his idea by Sean O’Sullivan, Head of Enterprise at South Cork Local Enterprise Office and secured a place on the IGNITE Graduate Business Innovation Programme under Director, Eamon Curtin. The business had a six figure investment and a team of four when Brendan exited the programme in 2013 and has subsequently gone on to secure international clients. Vconnecta currently employs 10 and plan to double this over the next 18 months.
