Richard Barrett Wins Google Award at IBYE
Richard Barrett, co-founder of Pundit Arena with Ross O’Dwyer, was presented with the Best Promotion of Business On-Line Google Award at the National Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur Finals at Google’s European Headquarters on 5th March 2017.
Richard, representing Cork South, was one of 8 national finalists in the Best Established Business category, having progressed through local and regional rounds of the competition over the last 6 months.
Pundit Arena is a sports media platform that empowers fans to become paid journalists. It is one of Europe’s fastest growing sports media websites, reaching millions of users, and currently employs 14 staff in Cork.
Meanwhile, IGNITE participant Fiona Edwards-Murphy, representing Cork North and West, narrowly missed out on the top prize in the Best Business Idea category. Fiona is founder of ApisProtect, a company that uses internet of things technology in the management and care of bees.
Over 360 guests attended the IBYE national finals where guest of honour Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor, T.D. made the important announcements.
The competition, which is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and Enterprise Ireland and run by the 31 Local Enterprise Offices, attracted entries from over 1,800 18-to-35-year-olds, showcasing some of the country’s best and brightest business talent.
The judging panel was chaired by Paddy Flynn, Director of Trust and Safety with Google. The other members of the judging panel were Eugene Forde, Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Orla Martin, Head of Enterprise, LEO Offaly, Niall O’ Donnellan, Enterprise Ireland, Brian Crowley, CEO, TTM Healthcare and Sarah Doyle, CEO, Kinesense. Broadcaster Claire Byrne acted as MC.
