Pundit Arena to Target US Market
Irish sports media start-up, Pundit Arena, recently announced plans to raise €3M and target the US market in 2017.
The business allows articulate fans and established journalists a platform to share their views on the sports of interest to them. It was formed when UCC graduates Richard Barrett with a BSc (Sports Studies and Physical Education) and Ross O'Dwyer, BComm, joined forces on the IGNITE Graduate Business Innovation Programme in 2013.
PunditArena went on to win the programme's top award, the Bank of Ireland/ IGNITE Business of the Year Award, as the business that best demonstrated the potential to achieve growth and create sustainable employment.
The business raised €650,000 early in 2016 from investors including Colm Lyon, founder of Fire financial services and formerly of Realex, and Graham Kinch of Google, and has grown traffic to 2.6 million unique users per month. The Cork-based company now employs 14 staff and will focus efforts on four key markets - Ireland, UK, US and Australia - in the coming years.
