IGNITE 11 Open for Applications

Friday, 8 March, is the closing date for applications for the next intake of participants for the IGNITE Programme which gets underway this April. The twelve month business incubation programme at University College Cork, that nurtures, develops and strengthens entrepreneurial potential, is inviting applications from recent graduates from any discipline, from any third level institution with a viable business idea.

Since its inception in 2011, the Programme has supported 100 start-ups that have applied a range of technologies in sectors such as food, pharma, health, finance, retail and media.

Past IGNITE participants include Dr Fiona Edwards-Murphy, co-founder of ApisProtect. The company uses Internet of Things (IoT) technology to monitor honey bee colonies. The company raised €1.5M in 2018 to deploy the system worldwide and plans to increase the team from eight to twenty five over the next three years

Dr Sinead Bleiel (Doherty), founder of AnaBio Technologies Ltd, a developer of encapsulation technologies for food and pharma markets is also a past participant. AnaBio Technologies Ltd now employs almost thirty staff at a product development facility in Carrigtwohill.

Among the many other start-ups that benefitted from IGNITE’s support are Brendan Finucane’s Vconnecta, developer of mobile communication tools for political and community engagement; Conor Lyden’s, TrustAp, a peer to peer payment platform and Richard Barrett and Ross O’Dwyer’s sports media website PunditArena.

Eamon Curtin, Director IGNITE said “We want to work with ambitious founders who have identified a business opportunity with potential to scale. Successful applicants will have access to an extensive team of mentors, advisors and industry partners, share a workspace in UCC’s Western Gateway Building, benefit from regular workshops and guest speakers and receive seed funding..”

The programme is supported by Cork City Council, Cork County Council, the Local Enterprise Offices in Cork City and County, University College Cork, Musgrave Group and Bank of Ireland.
