News provides warning of August 2008 flood at Mallow

The online flood warning system maintained by the Hydromet group of UCC at predicted the severe flood of August 1st at Mallow.

The upriver water level recorders at Duarrigle and Dromcummer detected the flood peak as it travelled downriver and issued a warning ten hours in advance of its arrival at Mallow.The graph of water levels shows that the system predicted a category 3 event, the most severe type, usually associated with widespread flooding at Mallow.

About has been in operation since 2005 and has been used by Cork County Council to assist in flood protection efforts for Mallow.
