UCC Heroes: Professor Joe Eustace, Dr Ruben Keane and Máire McCarthy, HRB CRF Clinical Research Facility

Professor Joe Eustace, Dr Ruben Keane and Máire McCarthy have been nominated by Marie Claire O’Regan, Centre Manager. Below, we hear why the team is so deserving of this acknowledgement.

“This team was responsible for getting the WHO Solidarity Clinical Trial up and running in 10 sites in Ireland. This Global Trial compares four treatments against usual care, with the aim of rapidly discovering whether any of the medications slow disease progression or improve survival in COVID19 patients.

Professor Eustace has been tirelessly engaging with stakeholders across Ireland (hospital sites, regulatory authorities, Ethics Committee, HSE, Department of Health, CRCI, HRCDC) and abroad (World Health Organisation, Medication Suppliers) to ensure that patients in Irish hospitals get an opportunity to gain access to the most promising emerging experimental treatments.
