This programme is designed to introduce managers to the full range of policies and procedures which are relevant to their role in addition to exploring the role and responsibilities of the manager in relation to the following areas:

  • Staffing and Recruitment
  • Performance Management
  • Leave Management
  • Handling Conflict
  • Staff Wellbeing and Support

This programme has been developed based on feedback from managers on their requirements to be most effective in the HR aspects of their role.

It offers the opportunity to meet managers from other areas of the University and to find out about the various supports that are available to them.

Staff feedback

  • Thank you for a very useful programme. It has definitely helped me in my new role as a Department Head.
  • The information on university processes, regulations and supports was very useful to me as a new Head.
  • I gained an insight into the challenges of leadership in university management, assertiveness skills as well as a new network.
  • It was very useful to get all the information on the policies which apply and advice on engaging with colleagues. The session on performance and managing colleagues was very helpful in that respect.
  • Gave clarity on many of the topics. Heightened awareness of some of the subtleties/nuances of contracts which are important to know. Better understanding of the role of the HR partner. Realisation there are many policies and procedures and need to consider how this could be filtered down better to Department level.
  • Provided me with a much more in depth knowledge on policies and procedures I didn't know!
