Green Forum

The Green Campus Forum draws its members from across the college community and includes staff and student representatives, and key personnel with responsibilities in relation to the sustainability strategy.

Chaired by Prof. John O'Halloran, the forum meets regularly to drive forward the Green Campus project and sustainability within UCC.

If you wish to be a representative for a particular group/area please contact us:

Prof. John O'HalloranWelcome to the webpages of the UCC Green Campus Forum.  UCC is proud to showcase some of our activities, achievements and awards in the green domain on this website.
In UCC we have a large community of students and staff who are highly committed to sustainability in all its forms.  The mission of our green campus is that all our activities are ‘student led, research informed and practice focused’.  This mission articulates our desire to develop students and staff that continue our long tradition of independent thinking and citizenship.
We are not only responsive to society’s needs, but we also lead by generating new knowledge and technologies in energy use, transportation, waste management  and biodiversity.  Through engagement with our students and staff we identify issues that need attention, use existing technologies to solve problems or if none exist we  generate new methods and technologies through research which are then translated into our operations.
We continue to lead and set standards in some areas of operations (e.g. ISO 50001) and by being the world’s first green flag campus.  We continue to be challenged by our community of staff and students to do things better and more sustainably.  Some of the projects are showcased on this website, others are in different stages of development – and there are others that are yet to come!.
The work of the Green Campus Forum, which I have the pleasure of chairing, is never done- but rather we continue to evolve to meet the needs of our students, staff, society and our environment to build a better and more sustainable world.
